I have a little database set up tracking the votes for man of the match on the Match Threads, so thought it might be interesting to see who we are voting for as Player of the Month/Season. I have applied a points value to the vote results, the winner getting 5, second place 4, third place 3, fourth place 2, and fifth place 1 point. Only League matches will be counted. I'll do an update at the end of the month. Click on the images to enlarge.

Season MOTM Awards
Nobody has won the MOTM award twice so far this season, four different winners in the four games...

August POTM: Ciaron Brown
Despite not winning an individual MOTM award, Brown's consistency sees him top the list for August.

Interesting stuff and thanks for pulling together. Could you add a “total number of votes” graph too?

Sorry if I’m being greedy

About time you did something

Ste this is great I’ve wanted to see this!

What would be better if we could find a way to change the poll to be a player ratings /10 (or out of 20 if you allow 0.5). I have tried googling this recently - i’m assuming we still run a proboards-based forum. MOTM works itself out and would be a great “fan rating” metric.
Think it’s impossible but if not would be another way to make our forum stand above the rest 😉

I tried finding something for this, nothing compatible currently

No longer proboards 😀

I love this idea but maybe the weighting needs looking at? Don't think it's representative to have 5 points for first, 4 points for 2nd etc... because that means a player winning MOTM with 90% of the vote gets the same points as a player winning MOTM with 30% of the vote. Likewise, the player who comes second could have anywhere between 1% and 49% of the vote in theory!

A better way might be to give a point for every 10% of each vote, which would give:

Cumming 7
Goodrham 6
McEachran 4
Brannagan 3
Brown 3
Harris 2

At the moment it looks a bit dodgy because Cumming got all his points in one game, but Tyler will catch him up after Saturday when Cumming will have nowt to do all game.

Interesting idea, but of course the number of votes changes for each match. If I sum the percentage of the vote each player gained, you get the following...

Total number of votes...

Big movers being Jamie Cumming up the list, and Ciaron Brown down it. If I include cup games then Matt Ingram appears at #4 from his two games...

Players who gained the highest percentage of votes in a game. Telling that the top 2, by some distance, are the goalkeepers v Coventry...

Thats a much more interesting chart to me and wow what a change in the story it tells.

I think total number of votes is good for the purist. It tells more of a story about how players are doing even when they’re not banking a top five day they may still be getting votes. It also shows how some players really aren’t making the impact .

Plus if a game gets more votes it probably reflects the importance of the game a little more so it’s all relative

Ps we are such boring nerds

I like this and I feel it's fairest. When we play Leeds or Bristol City, more people might vote than when we play Plymouth or Hull. But that's irrelevant to a player's effort or performance. Each game we play has the same opportunity to earn three points, so the man of the match poll for each game should have the same opportunity to earn up to 100 points (1 for each percentage point).

I'm happy to run all 3 of the graphs (Score 1-5, total votes, sum of percentage), so we can see the variations as we go through the season.

Fascinating to see how cam bran is no longer our absolute standout strongest player as he probably was in every other season
