National News P&O ferries

Have no fear, the political colossus that is Robert Courts is on the case....

The Maritime Minster from the constituency that couldn't be much further from the sea if it tried😁

This is even better than when the government used the wrong address of a Russian bank they were sanctioning the other week.

I see No 10 also knew about what was going to happen in advance, but simply didn’t say anything until the story broke. If only somebody had tried to propose a bill to stop this sort of thing - I’m sure it wouldn’t have been blocked off by the very people now trying to oppose it the loudest: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-58997916.amp

This is the problem with a strategy that involves nothing more than waiting to see which way the crowd starts to run before yelling “FOLLOW ME!” as loudly as you can. You’re always in clean up mode because you never actually stop anything from going tits up to begin with.

Went on this thread thinking, "surely they can't make this one about Brexit" but, YF never lets you down.

Disgraceful move, no surprise they are owned in the middle-east.
Everything is the fault of Brexit to some on here ....

It'd probably make sense to get in some sort of alliance with them where we all just use the same agreed standards.
Mmm. My understanding is that the practice is illegal in Spain and Ireland, but there is no 'agreed standard'.

P&O are scum. I remember supporting another strike against them well back in the day, must have been around 1988. The was after the sadly appropriately-named Herald of Free Enterprise disaster.

Jeez, that’s awful.

This isnt a Brexit issue but it is an example of the ‘flexibility’ and ‘freedom from red tape’ that the Etonians want.

Or the fact that you can always find someone to do the job "cheaper" in a global market.

Ask folk to pay more for anything and they don`t like it - see petrol, gas electric etc. 🤷‍♀️

P&O ferries owner getting a share of a £50m freeport scheme ....funded by UK taxpayers

This government keep hitting new lows!

Nice article from a Labour politician, a party that condemns "fire & rehire" when its the Governments "fault"yet uses the same tool on Labour Party staff.

If a minister gets notified at 8.30 in the evening for something that happened 12 hours later what exactly do they expect to happen?
These are human beings that sleep and eat the same as us!
Things will be done in the background, it won`t change anything for the staff who will go through the unfair dismissal process and P&O will pay the bill, employ foreign nationals on a pittance and everyone will move on and forget about it.

Thats the sad part....

Getting arrested for being a time traveller? Wish I could get notification for things that happened 12 hours in the future, could be very handy in life.

The Beeb are reporting that ministers were told at 8.30 the previous evening about what was going to happen the next day, 12 hours later.
The line they used was "The Government knew in advance and didn`t do anything"................ come on that is stretching it for anyone!

well it did delay the ministers writing a letter to the wrong person by half a day, so TBH not sure the response would have been any more effective the night before.
It does of course call into question again the #10 spokesman who denied that ministers knew in advance - a clear lie (even allowing for the possible weaselly defence that ministers may not have actually read the briefing that was prepared for them and so "didn't know")

Denied ministers knew in advance.

You say this is a "clear lie".

And then say they may not of read the briefing..... which means they wouldn`t know.................. 🤷‍♀️

So lying or incompetence (in not reading the briefing).

How convenient that no-one read the briefing....sounds like how convenient it is that all the incriminating evidence on Boris's Whatsapp was conveniently lost last year when he had to change his phone (despite being told previously he had a legal responsibility to ensure that any correspondance no matter the medium had to be stored/backed up).
