OxVox reaction to CDC planning officers' advice on the stadium

OxVox

The Oxford United Independent Supporters Trust
In response to yesterday's positive news about CDC planning officers' advice to back the Triangle planning application, we've distributed an update at https://oxvox.org.uk/cdc-update-070825/ written by Paul Peros and the OxVox committee which reads as follows:

I have said this a few times before but every now and then you spend a few days working on something, only for the landscape to change and a complete fresh start is needed.

This is one of those instances but for once, I do not mind one bit!

Last night we learned what we had suspected and hoped for some time, that planning officers at Cherwell District Council have recommended that the planning permission for the new stadium at the Triangle be granted !

This is incredible news and a massive step forward for the new stadium. This recommendation now goes before the planning committee on the 14th of this month, which one would hope will be accepted as is normally the case.

At the same time the s106 (planning obligations) are being completed and the application will be referred to the Secretary of State. This is standard procedure for large applications where green belt is involved and was expected and is not a cause for concern. The real hurdle is the planning committee on the 14th where OxVox will be representing supporters and, while this is by no means a given, we remain confident that they will not go against their own experts who have worked diligently on the application for over a year.

While this fantastic news is cause for great optimism, it is not the time to forget what got us here. It was the incredible hard work going back to the early days when Niall McWilliams would not take no for an answer and put in untold hours because of his determination and drive to safeguard our club and provide for the community he loves.

The arrival of Jon Clarke added planning and development expertise and it has been an absolute (and exhausting) pleasure to work along side both. Jon and his team have taken a huge step towards delivering on the owners plans for our club and top to bottom the club should feel very proud right now.

There has also been the amazing work of members and supporters who have remained measured and positive and have answered every call to engage with the councils. We cannot thank you enough.

That amazing patience and positivity can now help to carry us through the final stages. We have come such a long way but we are not there yet and we cannot be complacent.

Now is not the time, as tempting as it may feel, for gloating or recriminations. It’s not the time to react to councillors who opposed and baited. Now is the time to strengthen our connections with Kidlington, our new home, and to show once again what Oxford supporters are all about.

You have all been amazing in your support and once again, we owe you a massive thank you.

More hard work starts tomorrow and we will update you as we have more information, leading into the council meeting on the 14th of this month. Thanks to your help we are a giant step forward, but we will not stop running until the final whistle.

A loud and very proud…….COYY!

So are you for or against fans turning up on the day
Would you rather just a few select super fans just be in attendance?

It's a public meeting so no one can tell who csn go and who can't.

Just need fans who do go to not act like a dickhead. They'll be highly provoked by the hate mail sending anti-stadiumers.

There is virtually no seating for anyone other than speakers apparently although they do list some. We will be there representing members and supporters and I have applied to speak again but probably best to watch online. The club are releasing details of how to do so in the coming days. Love the positive reactions and would be great for supporters to be able to involved but in truth i'd take a quiet meeting with the right outcome ;)

It's really important we keep up the work that has got us here and not let the usual suspects bait us into anything. I for one will be smiling politely at them as we get what we have fought so hard for :giggle:

Not this

Again I feel to many of us are too soft , this isn’t a walk in the park , many of us live for Oxford United alone , I’m not saying break the law BUT let these c***s know exactly who there dealing with
Be loud be proud , our club is for life
Still don’t understand what a rowdy, shouty, bangy fans will do to jeopardise our ultimate goal
Yes I can round a few likely lads up

I've always said that fans should be involved at every stage, and that includes attending the planning meeting next week. But they MUST respect the process, respect our club, and respect the work that so many have put in over several years to get this fair.

If you want a few beers and to be rowdy, shouty and bangy, then do this on Saturday against Portsmouth. But that is not needed next Thursday. In fact, any mass grouping of fans inside or outside, could give Middleton and others an opportunity to say that they feel intimidated and unable to raise concerns for fear of their safety. That could then lead to the meeting being postponed, or being held behind closed doors. This could then give grounds for an appeal against any decision.

We all love our club, and we all desperately want to see the stadium plans succeed. Now is not the time to do anything that jeopardises this, no matter how tempting it is.

If CDC are not supplying sufficient seating for us to attend in person, will they be providing a live stream?

It's simple enough.

If you want to turn up to celebrate, support and congratulate those who have worked so hard to get this done - great.

If you want to rub it in FoSB faces and behave like petulant children, then probably best if you just stay at home and watch the stream online.

Are you going?

I’m sorry guys, but I’ve waited a long time for this, and NOBODY will tell me how to behave and that I shouldn’t be there!

If you really think people like me don’t belong there, and need lessons on how to behave, then we will have to agree to disagree.

See you there!
Not sure anyone said that you shouldn't go Colin. We have just been told by the club that there is very limited seating so warning people before making a long trip. We've also never told anyone how to behave. I'm not sure smoke bombs or a pitch invasion would go down too well, but i'm sure everyone will be fine :)

No one could argue with you being there after all the work you have done over so many years and I wouldn't dream of telling you how to behave!

However, I do have concerns that some may act in a way that is detrimental to our application, and it is to them that I direct my comments.

Nobody (as far as I can see) has said that you can't attend but I would reiterate as this moment in time the club and it's supporters do not want anyone to detrimentally affect the decision that has been made.⚽⚽💛💙💛

Things have changed a lot in last two weeks since the ancient woodland farce , of which I was pretty angry as was many others , so I made a few comments about protesting. As we now know things are looking very promising and I will be in attendance at the meeting or outside , I just want to be with fellow oufc fans when the news comes through that basically says the club is saved .
So fear not Mr Scotchegg you can enjoy your well deserved holiday knowing there will be NO unruly behaviour from me

We all know that they'll be looking for an opportunity to provoke so anyone that does go should just be calm and not react to 'anti stadium' rhetoric. I've been a supporter for over 60 years and I want to see this happen as much as anyone. I'll be watching at home, hopefully with a big grin on my face!!

The capacity in the room is very limited, and fans turning up are unlikely to get in. The worst case scenario is that due to the numbers trying to get in, or gathering outside, the meeting gets postponed again. Having come this far that would really be shooting ourselves in the foot.
Paul P and Janine will be attending to represent fans, and both have requested to speak although this may not be permitted due to the time constraints at these committee meetings.
The webcast will therefore be the best option for most fans.

You really don’t want us to go do you???!!!

I’ve never heard such a load of alarmist rubbish in my life! I actually feel insulted by the implication that fans can’t be trusted. You sound as bad as Middleton and McIvor.

If the room is full then it is full. There won’t be a mob of 5,000 lunatics with pitchforks outside. Of course they won’t postpone the meeting.

Not sure what you're looking to achieve here Colin, the plea from @OUSP (Replaced by FAB) seems entirely reasonable to me.

I think you're reading far too deeply into this.

I’m totally with you Colin it feels they just want those at the top table to attend. Up until today there has been No talk of “limited space “

The only talk about limited space is from those purporting to be representing fans. I watched a CDC planning meeting online recently, presumably from the same venue, and there were members of the public present. I'm pretty sure it is a legal requirement that the public can attend these meetings.

If it does turn out that the room isn't big enough, after waiting two years for the meeting, where there was always going to be a lot of interest, then that is poor organisation from CDC. But what we're hearing today sounds to me as though OxVox and OUSP are the ones that don't want us there.

Colin, everything you say is true.

It's also true that any fans there will, I'm sure, behave impeccably.

But the final truth is that there are no depths FOSB won't sink to to prevent or further delay this, and all it might take is one sympathetic Cllr to claim they feel intimidated, and suddenly it has to be re-scheduled behind closed doors.

It would all be lies, but that has never stopped them in the past, and at this late stage I doubt there's a straw they wouldn't clutch at.

I too, have been a supporter for over 60 years, indeed, aged 10 years I played at the Manor in the final of the Manor Cup - we lost 2 -1 after winning the White House Shield the previous week 2 - 1.
