Oxford Utd v Wycombe Wdrs This Saturday...

Whatever anyone’s feelings are regarding this game and whether it’s a ‘derby’ or not, this is a huge game for them and one they’re be desperate to win. There’s been some quite arrogant comments on social media - when we’re not exactly in a position to be arrogant! - which they’ll no doubt use to motivate themselves even more. I hope we’re up for it and don’t start celebrating 3 points prematurely, or else we could end up with an almighty kick up the a**e.

I don’t really understand why Wycombe isn’t a derby yet Reading is? Yet Wycombe is closer than Reading?

A derby is based on history, not mere geographical location. Otherwise we’d be at it constantly with the likes of Thame and Banbury and the Abingdon sides etc. Didcot Town would be pwopa nawty. None of them mean a thing because we just don’t have history with any of them. Wycombe are exactly the same - until the mid nineties they were no higher in the pyramid than the likes of Slough or Maidenhead are now. They were never on our radar, and you can’t just turn it on.

If Didcot got into the football league would you suddenly view them as big rivals and develop a severe dislike of them?

Wycombe Wanderers have much more history with Oxford City

Bless em. It's their big day out ? They will always be and always have been tinpot. Just another game for us And definitely Not a Derby in any sense of the word.
Let's just beat the mugs and then perhaps the Pikey will get the sack, win, win ✅

This “Just Another Game” attitude could well and truly get us whipped.

Every game for us until the end of the season is huge, regardless of the opposition.

Attitude and preparation is key.

Okay MC, to clarify "Just another opponent " and of course our attitude should be a given, particularly in our precarious state. Nevertheless, Wycombe are still Tinpot

Can I just say, I quite like Wycombe. But I prefer them a league or two below us, doing giant killing and generally being plucky

Can I just say they have a massive chip on their shoulder, play in a sh1th0le , are desperate for a rivalry and play a disgraceful brand of football advocated by a fool

I understand why people don't view the fixture as a derby but wouldn't it all become a bit more fun if it was one day.

Heh. No history, then.
I know all about Swindon's history. I've been supporting Oxford for over 50 years. I'm just getting a bit tired of people talking down what could become quite an attractive fixture one day.

I was in the north stand for the promotion game against Wycombe when their fans were trying to smash the internal door from their section. They were pretty vocal too. I was actually quite impressed.

Unfortunately it doesn't work like that, you need something to spark a rivalry, and it just hasn't happened with Wycombe.

It’s a big game for us too, and another chance for us to get another 3 points towards safety, so hopefully no complacency, especially after we’ve worked hard for the last 2 games.
