One topic discussed at the FAB introductory meeting that took place on 30th Sept was that the club have often found it difficult to consistently have our current club crest replicated, especially when reducing the size of it onto things such as poppy badges or having it printed in vinyl for display around the ground and training ground. It was proposed by Adam Benson that the club would like to remove the pin stripes on the current club crest, leaving just a yellow background.

The general feeling amongst FAB representatives was that most fans would actually prefer it without the pin stripes, or wouldn't be bothered enough by it to have a strong opinion on it. But we wanted to confirm this feeling before giving the club the go ahead to make the change.

A wider communication should also go out from @OxVox on this topic.

Personally, no problem with that at all. Looks cleaner and less busy and as you say will be easier to reproduce en masse.

Not a single person would have requested the pin stripes in the first place, and not a single person will care if they are now removed.

The current border and 'Oxford United' text is quite smart, but all that really matters (and is non-negotiable) is that the Ox head, in it's entirety, remains front and centre.

Personally, I'd prefer they'd fix the shape of the Ox, especially around the nose area. It's been wrong for years.

Even the Rob Alderman, 2001 version was drifting a little. And the 2018 version has always bugged me.

Should look like this... (ignore the font).

I prefer the modern version personally.

I also prefer the Ox head with eyes so please could they revert back to that on the travel gear etc?
It was raised that there had been some comments/complaints about the Ox head without eyes and nostrils not feeling or looking right. The club did provide an explanation, but I can't for the life of me recall exactly what it was, so look out for the meeting minutes that'll be published on the club website.

Agree on both points.

Never understood the thought process of adding the pin stripes in the first place, always felt like change for changes sake.

As for the ox head on the training gear, missing its eyes and nostrils, quite frankly it looks bland, weak, lazy and incomplete.
I really don’t like it, it’s awful, amazed that anyone thought it looked anywhere near acceptable and signed it off.

A reminder that the current club crest was designed to mark the club’s 125th anniversary in 2018

Here is the proposed new crest, along with a mockup featuring a more faithful reproduction of the original crest.

And this is the original Desmond Morris painting (dated July 1978)

The older one is actually better in the crest! Like how there's less space between the horns and the letters and the thinner lines look great. That's the one for me.

Fantastic to see that painting! If there's a museum area at the new stadium that should be in it!!

I wonder if because of the smaller lines between the different bits of the Ox on the original if it was updated to simply make it easier to physically print. Those gaps are quite tight if you were to say sew it or print it on vinyl… just a thought?

Was just thinking the same - and probably the thicker lines show up better at distance

I used to regularly work with the crest (worked for Maxwell's printers) and it was never a problem for me - and that was 1980s tech.

The vinyl point is valid - and that's what's likely prompting the change away from pin stripes. But it's easier to peel away small details than retain micro-thin lines.

Has anyone read the story club's website? Apparently we will be wearing the new badge plus the new kit for next season for our last home game against........Rochdale!

Easily confused with Sheffield Wednesday these days I suppose.

never liked the stripes, we were never asked back then so at least Benson has done that

That was a link to an article from March 2018. And we didn't wear the new kit as planned.
