City don't see us as rivals they have a rivalry against Banbury , Brackley and Slough

In the club house they show our games if we are playing like they are doing again on Saturday.

I imagine that an awful lot of United fans 'support' City.
With regard to the other way round? I do not particularly like the 'the only club in Oxford' flag, but not sure whether City supporters particularly hate United?

They certainly used to. I remember some being delighted when they signed Lee Steele as he was the guy that knocked us out of the league. When Guerriero took them over I went on their forum a bit and there was plenty of anti-United sentiment on there.

I had no choice but to be a United fan
My grandfather and father took me along as a 7 year old who knew nothing about football.
So not sure that it was to be a glory hunter ( and my grandfather had supported United when they were Headington United in the 1950s

I would be amazed if more than a dozen have even a passing interest.

I've only ever known of, or met, one person who went to Oxford City games. And he was a student, studying at Oxford Brookes, from Essex, who was a Billericay fan.

If it wasn't for this forum, and this thread in particular, I could genuinely live my entire life without being aware of the existence of Oxford City Football Club - such is their impact on our city and wider county.

No, because London (and Northern Greater London) is plenty big enough to support several professional teams. And, with the greatest of respect to OUFC, we are not Spurs. We are a club that was playing in front of sub-5,000 home crowds in the conference a few years ago.

Having said that, I remember in the 80s/90s it was said that whenever a team like Wycombe got into the league Chelsea attendances would drop. Don't know how true that was.

I know probably 20 United supporters who go to City at least once a season.
And I am sure that there are a lot I don't know about.
I would be surprised if there aren't quite a few who follow City even if they don't go to games
 
In all of my time living in Oxford I saw one Oxford City match that didn’t involve them playing OUFC, the West Ham friendly with Joey. Other than that I went to their ground for Sunday league cup finals a few times. I just can’t see the threat.

As for someone taking them on a journey, it’s far more likely to be another shyster, who moves into a market that already has a club? They only got 947 average crowds in the national league, that was bolstered by some bigger away followings, there just wasn’t/isn’t the interest in a second club in Oxford. Far more threat in the north of the county if Banbury ever got there act together, they have more potential.

As for a few City fans gloating and with a banner, I think the numbers would be a handful and, with the greatest respect in the world, they would be best described as oddball eccentrics, just no rivalry between us.

Worcester couldn't support a professional Rugby Union club.

Gloucester likewise supports a major regional Rugby Union side. Also Cheltenham attracts the football supporters from Gloucester I think. Gloucester City don't tend to get above NL regional level.

My Grandad actually supported Oxford city and Abingdon Town, I've got loads of programmes from when they played at Whitehouse road ground in the loft. What does that make me?

He always used to say Oxford city are the older club and also still used to call us Headington united before he died in 2002.

Probably our best fan, you should wear a badge with Top Fan on it or something like that so everyone knows who you are.
 
My initial comment was pretty blunt but in my opinion sums it up. Why would you support two clubs from the same city. If we played them who would people support? Supporting two clubs is not right. And if I were an Oxford city fan and I suddenly had 5000 extra (fake) fans show up for a big cup tie I would be fuming.

There already is a rivalry in my book, what other championship club is so ‘pally’ with their national league counterparts. Some U’s supporting them is tinpot.

Totally agree and it’s worrying how many also have their ‘premier league team’. It’s extremely tinpot. The same fans who often don’t attend Oxford games as their season ticket on the sofa is calling.
 
Anybody know anything about Spark Strategic Partners? Apart from what’s in the press release?

I always used to think it would be great to live in a two-club city, because you could go to a match every weekend. I do go and watch Oxford City if the real Oxford don't have a game, although even if I can't get to a U's match, if the away game clashed with a City home game I'd rather stay at home and watch United on the telly. Thankfully I don't have that problem tomorrow because they're showing the Derby game on the box in the bar before City play Chester
