Non-League Oxford City & University

Even let them use Brasenose College for the photoshoot. Can’t remember them ever sponsoring any club before so yeah.

Guessing it doesn’t cost much to sponsor a national north side in comparison to a championship club.

Also £45 for an Oxford City shirt, I suppose you have the same overheads when it comes to replica kit but that just shows how even non league football isn’t cheap nowadays.

Not a surprise to me, the club hierarchy and the University have been working together on quite a few projects recently, and I know the City head honcho gave a talk at the University not so long ago.

University of Portsmouth too.

I know that, but is that the first time the University has sponsored a local team?

It isn't mate, but with respect to the University of Northampton, Oxford University sponsoring a team does seem like a huge catch/bigger deal!

Edit: I've just realised you meant Oxford Uni specifically, sorry NSB!

Avoids confirming the stereotype held by many and there are ethical issues around elitism, and statues of and accepting donations from dubious characters.

Spot of sportswashing by the university?
I'm not sure what statues you are referring to, but it does seem very harsh to me to be judging yesterday's people by today's standards, unless we are looking at more extreme cases?

The University of Oxford will have done a lot of good. They don't need to sportswash. It's a very old university which will have done both good and bad. I don't understand the negative connotation towards it?

Given the moral standards that people want us to be held to for sponsorship, no university, no gambling, someone hilariously suggested Astra Zeneca above but that's big pharma and they make gambling companies look like trappist monks, its going to have to be Ethical Coconuts.

It is not costing them anything directly - it is not a straight financial deal.

What's involved in it then?

To be fair I suppose its unlikely Oxford University would gain much financially from sponsoring a conference north club, no real profile boost or potential financial gain so must be something else involved.

The trappist monks that produce strong Belgian beers and Buckfast and fuel alcoholism?! No trappist monks here thank you!
