OUTV - Domestic & International Broadcasting

Have any other clubs posted any info about this yet?

Yes, plenty - Bristol City did ages ago, and Pompey just this week.

With the new Sky deal, iFollow in its previous guise is done. Now it's up to the individual clubs to come up with their own service to stream games that Sky are not showing.

And, in keeping with almost everything on the commercial side of the club at the moment, we're seemingly leaving any announcement about what our streaming service is going to look like, or cost, until the very last minute. Just keeping my fingers crossed at the moment that it does happen at all.

The commercial department seems a complete shambles. It’s unacceptable really.

At the very least, as someone who lives well outside the Radio Oxford catchment area, I’d like to hear how I’ll be able to access the station’s coverage of Saturday games kicking off at 3 o’clock that I’m unable to attend.

How hard can it be to communicate this stuff?

"With the end of ifollow we are setting up a club streaming service with a technology partner. This will be called oufc TV and will provide x,y,z. It will/won't also include audio options in the UK. This will/won't connect with your yellows account. As things stand we are...

a) still negotiating with expert partners before making a decision and hope to conclude before the start of the season - thanks for your patience

b) finalizing the details with our chosen partner ready for the Norwich game.

c) flapping because we chose a small-scale start up that promised a load of largely untested app-focused, omnichannel, fan activation gubbins but it's all got a bit messy and they keep sending invoices to the club secretary

Or just do what Chris Williams used to do when things were a bit last-minute, pop up on a video with a barely functioning microphone and turn it into a 'we're Oxford, never do things the easy way, it'll all come good in the end' thing.

Anything but what we have from these current clowns

Very poor communications from the club. Surely a simple email informing you what is or is not happening regarding coverage. I have received absolutely nothing at all and only just over a week before the First Championship game. Not happy. The Home friendly v Southampton cost me a Fiver which was worth it. But not offered by OUFC. Why not?

Not just OUFC, I don’t think any other clubs have released details, it will probably be the same announcement from all clubs at a set time.

I had read iFollow was going to continue for the non-UK audience, but judging by comments here and the site redesign appears that won't be the case, which makes it even more shambolic given Sky's broadcasts isn't even an option to those outside of the UK.

There should be something for overseas fans - other clubs are launching their own streaming services - it just won't be iFollow, as that EFL-wide service has been discontinued after they signed the big deal with Sky.

But it will also depend a little bit on where you are, as different international broadcasters have done deals with the EFL as well.

As a US exile, here CBS did a deal with the EFL, so that all the games that Sky show (likely ~20 this season) will be on Paramount+ and won't be available on any club streaming service in the US. But the other ~26 should be available to be shown on a club streaming service, if they actually get their arses in gear at the club and launch one!

But no idea how it's going to go in the rest of the world.

OUFC commercial and marketing team not communicating with the fan base about a vital part of fans being able to listen/watch games? Surely not?!

I’ll repeat it again, how Benson is still in a job amazes me, it really does! The guy is so out of his depth it’s unreal. He must have some real dodgy pictures of Williams and Grant on his phone which is keeping him in a job.

At least you American Oxford fans know you will be able to watch the first two matches because of the new TV deal there with Paramount. Here, in Canada, there is no information at all as to which company will have the TV rights for EFL matches for this season. In fact, I haven’t actually seen any information about EFL TV deals moving forward in any other country except America.

Our best hope is OUFC.tv is up and running in next week and in the absence of a Canadian TV deal, the Canadian U’s will be able to watch the Norwich and Coventry games on that. That would require someone to put 2 + 2 together though. More likely that OUFC.tv will black out the game because it’s on Sky and should be available on Canadian broadcaster, but without realizing that there is no Canadian broadcaster!

@OUSP Please can you either provide some clarity, or lean on the club to do so, regarding how international fans will be able to stream the matches, now that there is no possible way of doing so via iFollow. I've previously been told iFollow will remain available for international fans, but this doesn't seem to be the case.

Kick-off is round the corner, and this is utterly disgraceful.

Couldn't agree more!

I suppose there's no chance of either watching or even listening to tomorrow's game (from the US currently).

Thanks Northstandboy, but I think this is for the 2023/24 season, not this season. The US broadcaster below Canada says CBS Sports which we know is wrong because the only deal announced to date is Paramount in the US.

From the web:
Paramount's main properties include the namesake Paramount Pictures film and television studio, the CBS Entertainment Group (consisting of the CBS and partially owned The CW television networks and television stations

Northstandboy is correct - CBS bought the rights, and Paramount+ is their streaming platform.

It also means that it must be for 2024/25, as last year it was ESPN that had the US rights.

So it looks like it will be DAZN for you (the below article seems to confirm it - "A rightsholder of EFL competitions in key DAZN markets of Spain, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, Canada, Japan, Italy"). No idea if that's a good or a bad thing!?!

Should note that the subscription to iFollow seems to have unilaterally ended on their side. I received a mail in March stating:

Membership cancelled
We're sorry to see you go! Per your request, we have cancelled your Video Season Pass membership. This will end on 01/07/2024.

When this ends, you will no longer be able to access exclusive, premium club content.

You can resubscribe at any time.

Thanks

I should note that this was not done at my request. My standing order was taken on 1 July every year and this has not been taken in 2024 (I checked and cancelled today until there is more clarity).

In any case, looks like it's DAZN and their weirdo commentators (Oxfort versus Peter Burrow) for 2024. Great!

Never received any contact my standing order would end or anything else.

Happily paid £500+ plus during COVID season but seemingly the club doesn't want my money and would rather I rely on dodgy streams for nothing. Madness.

Thanks for your replies and research, Northstandboy and tonyw.

DAZN is expensive but would be fine compared to some alternatives like Fubo…. That article Tony found gives me a little hope but if you click on the international broadcasters link on the EFL website, it still says it’s for the 2023/24 season (recognizing what you both said about the website being updated to 2024/25 season for US broadcasting purposes) and DAZN’s schedule for Canada has zero EFL games on it right now and the new season starts in a week.

Finally, the DAZN Canada Reddit thread also has a post from a Peterborough fan today who signed up for DAZN Canada during playoffs for a year, thinking DAZN had rights for this coming season as well, and after contacting DAZN support directly, has just discovered that they don’t as of yet. So while I hope you are both right, it sounds like EFL rights for Canada may remain in limbo for a little longer!! Here’s hoping we get some answers from the club about OUFC.tv soon!

Ive been hunting around for iFollow for the coming season and when I couldn’t find anything I’ve emailed the club and EFL to get more info. Should have looked on here first as wouldnt be the only person in this boat. Will see what replies I get. Hopefully something is in the pipeline.

Think I might be able to get the televised games with Bein sports here in NZ but their service is not great

The latest OUSP newsletter says: “… the club has announced that OUTV will replace iFollow, and we know that some of our overseas fans are keen to get details of this replacement service. We’ve asked for an update and understand that details will be out early next week.”

And about time too.

It’s not just overseas fans who are keen to get details. Those of us in the UK outside the Radio Oxford catchment area want to know how we’ll be able to access the station’s commentaries on matches we’re unable to attend.

Well thank goodness @OUSP are on the case. I was genuinely wondering how many new email addresses I would need to create to send the club this same question from over and over again until they'd be unable to ignore it.

Yeah. Time for @OUSP to add a new line to their terms of reference...

Communication to fans. Includes all the basic but important stuff paid staff can't be arsed to do. Except the 'Scottish bloke' - he's alright.
