Note the last paragraph:
Ed Waldron, Head of Football Operations, said: “We have studied Ole throughout the season, and we believe he is a talented player who still has plenty of room to grow.

“Having looked to the Eredivisie previously, we have watched Ole play on several occasions in person and we are confident he will improve the quality of our group.

“Following Ole’s decision to represent Indonesia in November, the Club’s connections allowed us to move quickly to ensure we could bring him in at the earliest possible opportunity and give him the best chance of success this season.”

Always helps having that Indonesian connection! Well done Erik Thohir.

You can start to see why the board sacked Des now and appointed Rowett. Go back to our League One days and we would look at a club like ours spending over £1m on an unproven (in the English game) forward from Holland and say that it is reckless. Clearly if we go down, that is going to be seriously detrimental to the club, and if we end up in financial difficulty we'll only have ourselves to blame. No more taking the moral high ground when criticising clubs like Reading, Bolton or Wigan - we're rolling our own dice now!

Really excited to see what Ole can do, but also feeling quite worried that the future of the club is seemingly hanging in the balance on our ability to stay in the Championship. No risk, no reward I suppose!

Sorry, but I see this only in a positive light. The new stadium will require quality football in the Championship and the board acted correctly in dispensing with Buckingham. The owners have shown that they are serious in making our club a top 30 club and whatever they paid for Ole, it falls into insignificance when you see how much they have already invested in the new stadium. We are very fortunate to have owners like the ones we have.

Enjoy the ride, 10 points from 12 over the Christmas period is a fantastic return.

Excited by this. I think thohir has funded this personally. I guess his theory is if Ole is good, he can sell him on for a massive profit in 2/3 years. You’ve got to remember as a billionaire spending a £million is the same as me risking £100 on the horses…. A gamble but one he will personally be able to live with.

Let’s hope he’s a success!

Indonesia are very keen to naturalise Romeny. He is seen as a critical step forward in the progress of the national side and Thohir is a big part of that conversation. It's a lot of money but important that people realise this is a downpayment on his potential. Romeny is not the finished article and will need time.
