Conference Non-League Day this Saturday

This Saturday is Non-League Day and Oxford City (featuring Josh Ashby, Alfie Potter and Josh Parker) are at home to Kidderminster Harriers, managed by Adam Murray.

Seeing as United don't have a game I thought I'd mozy on down. See you there?

Frustratingly, this is also my peak OUFC trivia period. Only met my wife in 2016, but she has had to hear plenty about Eddie Hutchinson and Phil The Power Trainer.

I took my wife to one game, she knows nothing about football, and she did nothing but bad mouth Beano.
I had no choice other than to issue her with a lifetime banning order.

Ps. I had to rescind it for the play off final so she could be my nominated driver and I could get pissed. Perfectly reasonable of me I think.

Off to watch Anstey Nomads....... Northern Premier League - Midlands Division.
They are currently second in the table and play leaders Carlton Town away tonight, before playing third placed Basford United on Saturday.
They are doing a NLD offer of admission for £5 if you have ST for a League club.
Recently signed Jack Colback (ex Sunderland, Newcastle, Forest & QPR). Martyn Waghorn, (ex Leicester) and a few others.

Its a great little set up down there.

Enjoyed Abingdon United beating Harefield Utd 1-0 in the Combined Counties Premier North Division. Abingdon hit the post from a penalty, but the subsequent attack led to Harefield's keeper getting nutmegged (amusingly) from a weak shot from out wide.

I went to South Korea vs Ivory Coast at Stadium MK today. Must confess I was disappointed Jin-Woo didn’t make the SK squad when they announced it but it was a decent game. (Ivory Coast somewhat overpowered Korea and ran out 4-0 winners, but actually the game was very even and SK hit the post three times). The biggest cheers definitely felt like they were for Son coming on for Korea and Amad coming on for IC though! Still a decent time and my kids really enjoyed themselves…

Apart from the idiot behind us who constantly shouted ‘Come On You Dons’ and ‘MK Army’ over the Korean fans chanting. He didn’t seem thrilled when I queried why he was such a passionate MK fan but hadn’t bothered to make the trip to Salford for their big game. Glad MK lost! (Although Stadium MK remains marvellous).

I took my wife to watch our home game vs Kettering Town in about 2009 It was a horrendous game with their big centre back winning everything in the air, but we kept pumping long high balls to him all game (Exodus Geohaghon) she said in her rather loud plummy voice 'Why don't they pass it to one another'

They put 4 past Basford following on from their 6-0 demolition of Carlton.

My wife’s first game at the Kassam was a 1-1 FA Cup game against Barrow in 2009. Luke Foster was sent off and it was a dreadful game. One for the purists!

I went to see Farnborough beat Chelmsford City 4-2 on Thursday. I heard Chelmsford are full time…used to live there and followed them in the seventies and eighties. Lyle Taylor struck a penalty for Chelmsford. They’re looking for a new ground.
Lyle Taylor refused to play for Charlton during covid but have to say he was a handful.
702 supporters. Hope Farnborough stay up, good catchment area and not a bad ground.

Nice little ground, only ever been there for the fireworks or to the clubhouse for a pint despite previously living a short walking distance away.
Tricky catchment area with Aldershot very nearby plus the ease of getting to London or Reading by public transport.
I use Farnborough train station for getting into London for London aways etc and you can be in Waterloo in 35 minutes, so people who have moved there from London just stick with their team.
Still a big enough town to support a national south team.

Really pleased City won, they beat the team in third despite going a goal down in 8 seconds and now look well on course to stay up. See, it can be done!
