Reports from Poland suggest we sold him for approximately half of what we paid for him. A few months earlier.

I would love to get to the bottom of this one. There was a rumour that we made him permanent to free up a loan spot (which would be madness). Any alternative theory would have to be mental too - gamble on him scoring half a dozen before the end of the seasons and we sell him for a profit?

I actually quite rated Prelec, from what we saw. But pound for pound (and accounting for the net financial loss - for the return of just a handful of sub appearances) his permanent signing might actually be the worst bit of business of the last two seasons.

Another Polish report also references a mandatory obligation to buy once clauses fulfilled for us.
Which begs the question of who on earth thought it was sensible to include such low clauses.
12 starts and 12 sub appearances in the league with no start after December.

I didn’t think Prelec was too bad, not Championship quality but certainly L1. It’s why I’ve been interested in what he’s been getting up to in Poland. No idea how the standard compares with L1, but he seems to be doing ok so far.

Only reason I can think of is the deal was so far down the road to completion when the embargo was applied we couldn't, or didn't want, to stop it from completing.

Wonder if he'll make it 3 in 3. Fair play to him, swapped the opportunity of Stevenage at home in L1 for Rangers at home in the Europa League. Appreciate his wages were high (not his fault), but I'd have liked to have seen him in L1. I reckon he could have done some damage.

Only reason I can think of is the deal was so far down the road to completion when the embargo was applied we couldn't, or didn't want, to stop it from completing.

Pure speculation on my part, because I can’t be bothered to look up the rules.

Could there be a situation where we had already triggered the obligation to buy him and brought the purchase forward to avoid the fee falling in the period where we are subject to League One spending rules?

We then sold him to get the wage out and income in as soon as it’d be part of this SCMP. Or he told us he absolutely wasn’t going to play for us again so we had to do it.

It wouldn’t excuse the initial deal, but it might make sense of an utterly bizarre turn of events since January.

Or we just thought he’d be absolutely fantastic and he got injured instead.
