Current Player Thread Nik Prelec

If Lankshear is bought by another Championship club at end of season at least we will have 2 no.9's with Prelec and the improving O'Donker ready for league one. Then we need to loan someone in rather than starting the season this year with nothing.

I trust Marl Harris more than GOD next year

What are you basing the 'improving' bit on?

GOD has had 31 minutes of senior football this season, all coming within the first two fixtures of the campaign. He's then been injured and played for our U21s on a handful of occasions.
There's absolutely nothing to suggest he is ready for L1 from this season.

BDK is good but the best in the last 40 years?! This place does have some very very strange statements thrown out there sometimes. BDK is good but there is even a current player that plays along side him who I think is better and that is Brannagan. That's before you even mention Joey, Lundstrum, Rothwell.
BDK is miles better than Brannagan, who has regressed massively this season.

But it allows for a dig at the only striker in our squad who has actually been the top scorer for a team promoted out of League One.

He scored against Oxford City in the senior cup, which seems to have got people excited, saw someone on an OUFC Facebook group describe him as on fire.

He is excellent. Everything you could want in a target man, wins every header, big and strong too with a good footballing brain. I think he’d be excellent in the Championship next year, let alone league one.
Came here to say the same. Even with an arm round his neck he still moved his marker back and won the ball before also drawing the foul. The ball sticks to him and I'm glad we've got him on a permanent.

He's really strong and his reading of the flight of the ball and subsequent body positioning is outstanding - basically he gives the defender two choices: Let him have the ball, or foul him.

I still feel that we don't really know if he can finish......but he can certainly lead a line, and he is perfect to bring on in situations like today.....

O’Donker ???? Err. I think you’re trying to be funny.
Will not ever make it I’m afraid. Non league is his level.

Jacques de Molay was on fire, but no one was suggesting he should be starting for Oxford!

Preilic has signed permanently for the Yellows from Calgari.

Well, if Bradshaw and Phillips can contribute in L1, and the likes of Dembele have had good seasons there, I’ve no doubt he’ll do a decent job.

I suspect this summer may reinforce just how out of our depth we were over the last couple of seasons e.g. player quality. We spent two seasons building a top 10 L1 squad.

Club announced his permanent signing on 24th February, we then preceded to name him plus 5 loan players in at least one matchday squad (Hull in April) so it must have gone through in February, otherwise we'd have been breaking the loans rule.

You say that, but if have-a-go Harris and vexatious Vaulks are in the starting line up come August, it'll be an unbalanced half top L1 and half top L2 mega-mix.

Long throws and six-yard ICBMs should not be tolerared.

People are.asking why we completed the option on him.

I understand the option was only available in the championship so we made it happen while in there.

The club sees alot of value in him. Hopefully he generates it

For me we’ve seen glimpses of a proper player, he’s never going to be a natural finisher but at L1 level he should get enough chances to score plenty.

The one concern for me is his fitness, since his hernia issues he simply hasn’t looked anywhere near the same level. Maybe a full pre season and we’ll see him back to looking a real handful.

He has shown signs of being a decent player. However he has never looked ‘match fit’ and seemed to be completely out of shape when he returned towards the end of the season

I’ve seen him have two decent 45 minutes. One 20 minute cameo (can’t recall the opponent) was also memorable for his sheer lack of effort and desire to close down when we were hanging on. Very unconvincing so far and not sure what some are seeing to have any confidence in him for next season.

Bristol City away, Derby at home were two impressive starts that stick out. He came off the bench and was brilliant against Southampton on Boxing Day, and there was a home game more recently where he just won everything in the air coming off the bench. West Brom I think.
