Cllr McLean is actually a good example of someone who is ‘cautiously neutral’. Far from an ally but equally not an enemy either.

Not that KPC really matter much anymore of course. Nevertheless, and it’s the bit from Scotchers that I do agree with, the club has to show it can be good neighbours and that includes the Parish Councils. No matter their hostility to the stadium, keeping things cordial should win you allies and not result in any antagonism.

I maintain that keeping on top of what the antis say is important. The word of people with ‘councillor’ in front of their name tends to be taken more seriously than your average Joe in the street. Councillors are just ordinary volunteers with time on their hands though. They aren’t professionals who know the ins and outs of whatever field they’ve been decided to cover (Andrew Gant being a fine example) nor paid for what they do. They’re ordinary folks and some one which think they have more power than they have. They have the power to control a narrative unless there are people there to challenge them.

I remember a woman on Nextdoor saying that OUFC could stay at the Kassam Stadium because ‘Ian Middleton has seen the lease’. That was her evidence because a councillor - someone with some authority - had said so. IM isn’t high up enough in OCC to see it so he wasn’t telling the truth. Should we just allow that kind of lie against the club fester and spread? No. It should be challenged. I’ll continue to do so as long as it remains useful to OUFC.
Just as an example of councillor McLean wanting to engage with the club a bit more this is from the last council meeting

Looking at those desperately low figures on a Saturday afternoon the new stadium could a life saver for those struggling car parks and a money earner for the council as well as encouraging people to use them at other times as it becomes more of a habit.

Yeah, if only it weren't ILLEGAL to park there when not using a bus.

I tried to use the bus but couldn't work out how to get my car on there.
Jokes aside, the figures from yesterday just show how underused the car park is. The council could make a nice little profit if they sectioned off 50 percent off the car park on matchdays for supporter parking. Charge £3 a pop perhaps?

Personally I will use the train, but just an idea.

As low as 12 percent capacity!!! That's truly mindboggling!

Giving 50 percent of the car park over to supporters will effect absolutely nothing given the current figures. It's a no brainer.
Tell me who from kidlington would use it they have no need to use it they have a perfectly good bus service to Oxford why would any kidlington resident get in there car and then drive to Oxford Parkway to get a bus to Oxford. It's a Car park for those who use the train that is all

Oxford Parkway is just about getting as much use as the £51m waste of money on Eynsham park and ride again that will be another park and ride that won't be used if it ever opens

You could charge a fiver and bring in enough over a season to fund a service for kids, old people or the disabled that has had to be cut back by the council, paid for by people parking in a car park.

Middleton will only say that football fans are poor or tight arses and won't pay to use the carpark and will park outside residents of Kidlington homes. 🤣

Great idea though as it would give back to the community far more than any of the nimbys or the dinosaurs of KPC have ever done and we all know football fans aren't tight and will pay to be within a 5 minute walk of the ground, every other ground I've been too has implemented a charge to park and it works well. Could even make the carpark pre booking only so it would be easier to manage the amount of traffic.

You could go a step further and pay for parking for the season in one lump sum. Will raise further funds for the council.

As for parking outside residents homes - it is perfectly legal if there are no restrictions in place? Residents don't own the road outside their house. Obviously I am not advocating blocking residents drives.

Wasn't one of the recent comments that a car of four or five supporters would happily pay a fine for parking in a CPZ, as when split between them, the cost represented excellent value....

That’s easily disproved by the fact that a day at the football costs a lot more than a fiver, you could probably double that actually. With online pre booking thrown in so a guaranteed parking space most people would consider that a bargain, you are selling out every game and bringing in guaranteed income.

A car park that doesn’t get used much is just tarmac and a wasted earning opportunity.

We have been told on next-door many times that people already don't pay to park in Oxford Parkway but instead park anywhere so kidlington already has issues around parking yet they kidlington residents all seem to think it's oufc that has to sort out there existing problems

It's a public car park available to all, including football fans, so no need to give over half of anything, we're perfectly entitled to use it as it is now.

I doubt many will drive, but if they do, these figures show there are plentiful parking spaces available and people will not be parking in the streets of Kidlington or North Oxford especially as there'll also be shuttle buses running from all of the Oxfordshire park and rides.

I have paid to park at Pompey, a local school, Sheffield United, a local business, Coventry, the club ran its own car parks and loads more over the years, always been a relief to know you can get parked up and you don’t begrudge the money to know that your car is nearby and safe, so football fans are much better than commuters, it’s not an everyday cost so you won’t be looking to avoid it.

I thought the whole point was to reduce the use of private transport, get folks using the rail and bus networks. Also, any allocation of a public car park for the exclusive use of a commercial enterprise (i.e. OUFC) is not going to be welcomed. Keep things as they are.
