I m both a parent and Grandparent I would never vote for him. The younger generations just don't take no interest in voting that's the problem.

Us youngsters 😏don't tend to vote because no councillors appeal to take our views into consideration, it always seems they want to please the wealthy / elderly few and completely bypass the future of this area.

I was going to vote this time round for an independent but then he had a reform logo next to him on the ballot paper which he never disclosed previously. So I spoiled my paper

For the life of me I can't work out why people still vote for him. At election time he no longer knocks on my door after we had words some time ago.

I sense it’s because be makes an effort where others don’t. He posts out leaflets and replies to residents’ emails. I can’t knock him on that front. How many other wannabe councillors bothered to post a leaflet out in Kidlington East? He’s also a District and Parish councillor so will be a familiar name to residents. People often vote for the incumbent and the familiar face even if they don’t really know much about what they achieve (in the case of Middleton, very little) and what they stand for. I reckon if half the electorate knew how he spoke to people online and saw his condescending, aloof posts about all matters, not just the stadium, he’d lose a fair chunk of support. He’s an unpleasant man and not just because he’s on the antis side.

The same could apply in the ward where I live. Saj Malik has become an OCC councillor on the strength of his City council work and tireless leafleting to show what he has done and what he will do.

All that said, ask 10 people in the street who their county councillor is and what they do and I reckon 7/10 would not be able to tell you. They’re volunteers who have time on their hands to attend meetings and do generally boring stuff whilst most of us are at work. It’s why retirees, career politicians and those who self-employed tend to gravitate towards those roles.

That was definitely me before the stadium proposals. I look forward to being blissfully unaware of local politics again once spades are in the ground.

If you (not you personally) don't as a block then they will continue to ignore your views.

Hence why policies favoured older voters in national politics.

But it's not so much the unwillingness to get out and vote. It's the fact their isn't anyone promising to do anything for the working class or the younger generation. Alot of the politicians around here are nearing pensioner age and are really out of touch with the youth. I get it , to be a politician you need alot of time on your hands and that's why they tend to be older. I was only going to vote this time round as the independent is the same age as me and has similar views but when I see the reform logo next to his name that was a big no no as I don't agree with alot of their views.

I'd argue Corbyn had some policies for the young but whilst he got some of the young vote, I don't remember a massive increase in turnout from the age group.

Maybe pressure groups need to form and push for policies. There seem to be for pensioners etc.

“Public Art”- who knew ?
On each floor, entrance etc etc
£141,000
Unbelievable
CDC Certainly want to stake there claim

Seems to me these days there is little appetite amongst the young to get involved or protest against anything.
The main reason why the Conservatives are doing badly is that most of their votes are from the over 60’s , that figure is dwindling.
So add Reform into that equation and next election they will finish 3rd or fourth
What does a voter do if they feel they cannot vote Labour Conservative/Reform, vote Green, it’s a protest vote but gets you more votes and maybe enough to get elected.
Does show how something like the Stadium can affect the way you vote.
In Abingdon I used to vote Lib Dem because I wanted the Tories out and am a Labour voter at heart. But because of their stance on the stadium I reverted back to Labour because they won’t back us

Agree totally. I am a "Millennial" (I hate those labels) and have very little interest in local politics. My priorities are looking after my young family, I do not have much time on my hands.

The stadium saga has sharpened my focus on local politics at least in Oxfordshire. It's an absolute s**t show in the county. Too many incomers who come to the county to retire dictating to the natives how they should live their lives. I hate it.

To get this stadium built will send a message to the likes of Middleton - you do not mess with our football club and you will be exposed for who you are - hypocrites and snobs.

On a national level, I will never vote for the Liberal Democrats or Green Party ever again.

You don't mess with any football club in the end the club always win Brighton for example and why?? because of the community simple

Fairly common requirement for planning. Our PC got £30K of S106 money and spent it on bespoke oak benches created by a local artist, for people to rest and admire the view from and of, the Chiltern Hills.

The local yobs brought portable barbeques and lit them on seats......

Steady on son. I know you can't go a day without insulting the fella but let's wait and see eh?

I know he's a shameless liar and all round charlatan but this isn't helpful.
He deserves absolutely no respect. He is trying to kill our football club to satisfy his inflated narcissistic ego.

f**k Ian Middleton.

Ian doesn’t worry about the mental health of 1000’s of OUFC fans if their football club goes to the wall so why the f**k should we worry about his.

It’s all a massive game to him. He’s a disgrace

I think Ian Middleton is irrelevant now and we shouldn’t spend time bothering about him
If he pops up on Next Door or any other media platform our friend Paul Batt will deal with him.
Let’s concentrate on getting onto the CDC portal and putting over our case. This is where we can all do some good, they are the people that matter. Write to the CDC Councillors that we know are on the planning committee.Especially now it is crystal clear we don’t have a home in 3 years
If someone has a list of councillors to write to and could put it on here fantastic

Click on each one for email address

Done it myself not one of them bothered to acknowledge my email

Hopefully this will turn fosb to focus on other things land behind the moors seem to of taken their eyes of the ball what with telling people how to comment on our application and who to vote for
They have not mentioned this despite me telling them several times

despite the land behind the moors and any subsequent development affecting Kidlington residents ( my sister included- she lives on the moors) much more and potentially on a permanent basis, than a stadium on a small piece of land between oxford rd & frieze way, opposite oxford parkway. Their inaction regarding LBTM development speaks absolute volumes about the pressure groups who are made up of basically the same people.

I think on the whole we are being too considered now.
I’m certainly not saying we go and smash up the council offices etc, but considering what Oxford United means to many of us, and our families, I fear we are taking this laying down if I’m honest.

Bizarrely, if you look at the reaction from groups supporting Stop Oil, Ukraine war and free Palestine, their argument gains traction from their passion and presence, together with the media coverage.

Why don’t we peacefully mobilise as a fan base, supported by lots of colour. Defiant with restraint.
Imagine thousands of us stood peacefully fully kitted out, banners, flags, shirts, scarves etc around the next meeting of magnitude.

Just a polite reminder to add more supporting comments to the Planning Portal.

Billy copied this letter (below) on to the forum recently. Paul Batt’s clear and succinct letter to the OM neatly highlights the key issues and we now know - as if we didn’t already - that the club will be homeless in 2028 making the Very Special Circumstances of relocating to the ‘green belt’ or what now appears to be grey belt compelling.

The joint press statement from OUFC & Firoka is irrefutable evidence that the club cannot remain at the current stadium - Firoz Kassam does not want us to stay.

If you have a spare five minutes TODAY kindly add your supporting comments.

This is the Portal link for those comments: https://planningregister.cherwell.gov.uk/Planning/Comment/24/00539/F

33,000 fans in yellow outside CDC offices - let’s go for it.

I would absolutely love to ignore him now, but the little green goblin has been meddling far too much in this process that I won't take my eye off what he's doing until the stadium is built or he is not in position of any power to meddle further.

You don't need to gain much sympathy from the greater public by protesting about conflict and a small building project pails into insignificance next to such things. Stop Oil on the other hand may have brought their cause into the public eye, but they simultaneously alienated over 90% of the population and got themselves a "nutter" tag to boot.

This fight is all but won. By all means support the application through the normal channels but isn't a mass gathering of football fans, shouting and cheering, just what FoSB have been saying is going to happen?

What you need is around 30/50 well behaved polite protesters with banners saying no stadium no OUFC

That sounds good to us BUT...
The councilers may see that as threats. The most of the council want the best for their people and have all the facts.
The lies posted by fosb and folk influenced by their lies will be rejected.

They can claim it as threatening behaviour as much as they like I couldn't give a monkeys.

I will be there in support of the club and application that's all !
