Poor on so many levels and worrying tbh. You can see why we end up under embargo’s or stadium f*ck ups etc.

Don’t get me wrong, the shambles of it is amusing but as a supporter of the club I find it deeply disappointing. If this was in business, particularly financial institutions or listed companies, there would be serious issues. I appreciate that we’re essentially amateur hour and not a FTSE or AIM company but this is poor.

OxVox or whoever need to be speaking to the club about this. It’s one of a long list of errors and it comes from poor management at the top.
i dont think im being picky, GF said in his statement following DB sacking, that the new manager would be ( quote) 'in the dug out at Leeds'

Yet GR is going to be in the stand - not, as GF stated, in the dugout.

“Following a thorough and diligent recruitment process”.

diligent /dĭl′ə-jənt/

adjective

With careful attention and effort; careful; painstaking; not careless or negligent.

Snigger!

As a matter of interest, where did he say that, Sarge?

I’m looking forward to the Club’s statement on the matter via OUSP, putting half the blame on Leeds United, followed by a whinging one from OxVox a week later, all the while Adam Benson is running round saying “nothing to do with me guv”
I wouldn’t characterise Oxvox in this way. In my experience, they work conscientiously to hold the Management of the Club to account. Given the abject complacency on display once again, imagine how tricky this is. Oxvox seems to me to communicate effectively with Suppoters. They don’t get confused by the Fan/Customer nonsense.

well spotted Tim, Ive rechecked GF's statement/ update, and it doesnt appear in there!- Im fairly sure I saw, or heard something from an official source 'the club' saying the new coach would be 'in the dug out at Leeds' in the past few days ?

perhaps it wasn't, and Ive imagined it?

Sarge, in the emergency Dub podcast I think

I know it looks like a mess comms wise but Gary Rowett would have agreed terms yesterday and would be unveiled this morning. Everyone at the club is aware of this
But maybe the Leeds preview goes out at a certain time and they’re told it the manager will be announced by that time
The new manager is then delayed through traffic or whatever reason and nobody tells the guys sending the Leeds preview.

Could be a very simple explanation doesn’t look that good but in the scheme of things it doesn’t really matter

Just one of many things, though, that “doesn’t look that good”, Aldo!

Can you imagine how much we’d be laughing if Sw*n dump had announced (or not announced) their new manager like this?
Good grief.

First impressions are everything, what will Gary Rowett think for example, that were a little bit of a shambles behind the scenes I imagine, you don't hear of too many club accidentally unveiling a new manager.

Sorry mate, but you are clearly qualified to be the new comms manager.🤣🤣

I’ve just skimmed through the comments section of the OM after the article announcing Rowett’s appointment. You’ll all be pleased to know that it makes this forum seem like the centre of reasoned and balanced debate. Oh, and I haven’t see anyone refered to as a ‘t**t’ here, well not yet anyway.

I called Ian Middleton a ‘tit’, does that count?

This is all very plausible, but give the media team is 3 people, working out of the same office, it’s not beyond the wit of man for someone to go “We’ve not announced the new manager yet, did we write anything about him in the preview that goes out today? Hmm someone should check that”.

It’s the Head of Comms job to know about these things in what is a very small department. However you look at it, the ball was dropped and it’s poor. Capital offence? Of course not, but a basic error that shows a lack of attention to detail. It’s great that the video content has improved, but honestly that shouldn’t mean the basics just fall by the wayside. And again, it is someone’s job to make sure these things DON’T happen.

It’s not really a big deal though, is it? The horrifying fact is that not everyone who works for the club has the time or energy to double check everything, every single time. s**t happens.
I completely disagree with this, on many many levels.

Every single thing in business comes from the top down, from the importance of signing a goal scorer, to the type of teas on sale at half time. Every aspect has to be considered - because it is important, especially announcements and emails - paper trails.

I do not own/run a football club, and I do not work in PR. However, I run my own business, and I would have had a wild guess at a potential better way of this whole thing happening, even before Des was sacked on Sunday. And that is: OUFC release a statement on Wednesday at the latest saying: "We are thrilled to announce Gary Rowett as the new manager of Oxford United Football Club. Gary's work will officially start on the Monday after the Leeds United match"... How many words was that? And that is really really all that is required. Everyone then knows what's happening, and more importantly we can all get a bounce from the new manager - whether you wanted Rowett or not.

Galvanising the paying customers fans at this point especially, is crucial to our survival.

Also, anything that is client facing in any business as big as a professional football club should be at minimum double, if not triple checked. It is a very simple prerequisite - get the f*****g thing right.

Even more so when we're on the cusp of a new stadium.

Anyway, personally, I absolute welcome Gary Rowett to our club. I think we now have a very good chance of staying up.

First impressions are everything, what will Gary Rowett think for example, that were a little bit of a shambles behind the scenes I imagine, you don't hear of too many club accidentally unveiling a new manager.

If Gary Rowett doesn't already think we're a bit of a shambles behind the scenes, then he hasn't done his due diligence!
(Yes, today was bad - but it's nowhere near as bad as our Financial Officer ignoring invoices from Sunderland for several months and almost getting us a transfer embargo!)

He's a smart guy, he probably knows that we're not run very professionally behind the scenes, but took the job anyway because a) there's only a limited number of Championship-level jobs that are going to come available any given season and we at least have money behind us, and b) it's probably not that unusual for second tier and below football clubs to be somewhat janky operations!

If they’ve sacked Des for a bad run while not in the relegation zone, why wouldn’t they sack his replacement for actually getting relegated?
You really think we wouldn’t have been in the relegation zone today if Des was still here?

If there was ever a team not prepared for the championship,it was Oxford United.
Small budget.
S**t stadium.
League 1 squad.
Poor recruitment team.
Poor players .
No fight .
No passion.
No academy coming through.
No assets to sell .
Poor communication.
Poor behind the scene decicions
Any one that truly thought we'd be not struggling, is beyond me.

Leave some for the opposition

Seems normal to me supporting OUFC , more downs than ups .I still keep coming back for more punishment 🤣💛💙

As many ups as downs for me.
Supported them from the old Division 2. So that's what 6 promotions and 6 relegations. 6 Wembley appeaances, and been to all except the covid one.

Do you get some sort of perverse pleasure in being miserable? By my reckoning, we've enjoyed three promotions since 2010 and if there have been any relegations, I've forgotten them! More significant ups than downs, I would tentatively suggest.

And yet you get someone on here demonstrating complete immaturity and a total lack of understanding, accusing you and many others of not having a back bone .
