I try to not get bogged down with worrying who is going to still be here next season or not. Enjoy him while he is here as he is a fantastic player, and if he does stay with us cool. If he helps us stay up though and decides to go, will have my full blessings.

Best attitude. You never enjoy the moment if you are constantly looking at the future.

Plus, given we have a tough fight to stay up, the best outcome for us may well be him being out of our reach as he has torn it up, will mean we could well be in this league again. If someone offered me that now I would take it.

We already have MPH to thank for playing a part in us reaching the playoffs and being in the Championship. His late goal for Pompey against Lincoln, just after Lincoln had missed a penalty, on the final day of the 2023/24 season, meant we made the play offs instead.

Let’s hope he’s a lucky omen for us.

We’d have made them anyway. We finished 5th that year due to a late Northampton goal against Barnsley.

Yes in a couple of years most of the team will have gone, either in an upward or a downward direction - apart from Sam, Cam, and Brown of course.

This is true. Teams get dismantled almost annually nowadays. Our starting eleven come August, whatever division we are in, will likely be very different to the starting line up v Leicester.

When I first started watching Oxford in 1970/71 the team hardly changed for three or four years - same keeper, same back four and roughly the same midfield and attack bar the odd addition. Mind you, back then there was no transfer windows as you could sign players when you liked. You were just as likely to sign a player on Christmas Eve as you were in the middle of July in pre season.

For all his excellence so far, I thought he played like a player who knows that he is off in the summer. Not lazy, but just allowing his man an extra foot of space (as seen with the second goal), not jumping for headers and being sloppy in possession.

Was deffo his worst performance. If we were able to stay up perhaps he would have stayed? Very unlikely now!! Think he still contributes between now and end of the season!!

So my thoughts....

He's a very good player, he's skillful, can turn and run, intelligent on the ball, you can see a player in him. Great long throw.
However..... For shots he's weak. You can see why he isn't a prem footballer he hasn't got the final product.

So my Question is would you have him next season. In the championship???
For me probably not I think he's a bit of a luxury, I think in a team where he would need to play weekly it's not him,
So whats your view????

If we are in the Championship, I would take him in an instance. I know he is 23 but he is still raw, lacking in confidence in front of goal, but he is skillful and works his nuts off. There is so much more to come from him. I would rather we had him than somebody else.

I thought he was our best player when he first came in the team on the left wing, and was MOTM for me in his first 2-3 games. Then he moved to the middle and wasn’t anywhere near as effective, and although he’s improved since being moved back out wide, and works incredibly hard, he’s not quite at the level he was at first - I wouldn’t mind seeing him rested for a game or two as he gets through a lot of work and maybe it’s starting to take his toll. I’d still have him back here in a heartbeat though

I would 100% keep him.
I think he was a standout for his first few games and he’s dropped off from that initial standard, but that also coincides with a lot of the players around him upping their game too.
Would much rather keep him that roll the dice on another player. Hes working hard and clearly has quality. Saying that, I think giving him a breather wouldn’t be the worst idea at some point

f**k me. For someone with the moniker of "The Voice of Reason" you don't half have some funny views! 😉

I'd love to be in the reckoning to sign MPH come the summer, but can see him going to a club higher up the league to be honest. He's class.

We seemingly had the chance in the summer to act like a championship club and sign him for 2 million.

Spurs gave him a new contract less than twelve months' previously that runs to 2029, and you think they would have been willing to sell him to us, as a 20 year old, last summer for the same price they bought him? Really?!?

The nonsense some people on here will believe when it fits their narrative.........

We haven’t signed a player on a free since the summer of last year (unless I’m forgetting someone?) we’ve just spent over a million quid on a winger who although it’s early days hasn’t come close to looking like contributing as much as MPH has, and whatever we paid for an injured Prelec, who again hasn’t showed as much as MPH in my opinion)

Now we’ve got a 23-year-old who has overall been pretty good for us who is out of contract and you wouldn’t fancy him on a free?

Fair enough but if imagine you won’t have many agreeing with you on that

3 wins and people are honestly suggesting we could sign Lankshear permanently. We seemingly had the chance in the summer to act like a championship club and sign him for 2 million.

We chose not to. Now worth 10. You do wonder how much that summer penny pinching was worth it.
Shame we didn't take the option we are obviously learning fast

Longer contracts at premier clubs are handed out like confetti, look at Chelsea it's to protect an asset over we will actually use this person.
Remember FFP as a home grown asset it's 100% towards it rather than a %.

Kip behave
Ipswich and Middlesboro were the other clubs interested, and could have paid far more than us.
You presumably thought it a great idea to part with over a million quid for Dembele
Hindsight is a wonderful thing

I'm amazed anyone wouldn't want to keep MPH permanently if we had the opportunity. Even if his form has tailed of slightly he still looks a proper Championship level footballer, he retains possession more often than not and physically he's a proper athlete. If we can get him to have a bit more conviction in front of goal then we'd have a real player.

I think with lankshear we will look back and be glad to have known him. At 20 yrs ok, you go and get 10 goals in the Championship for a team scrapping for survival, your next move is a champ promotion candidate or match day squads in the prem. The way spurs are at the moment, they may get him back in the fold come the summer.

hes due a goal- hopefully he'll bag one today

MPH has arguably been the most impactful January signing. I’d argue Makosso goes close both for now he played when in the side but also what it’s brought out of Helik, but MPH is the one for me.

But MPH reminded us all what it was to take the ball and carry it with some level of composure and direction. And the physicality has brought a whole new dimension as the first half of the season was powderpuff to the extreme. He also gives us the long throw without having to carry Vaulks through a game.

A slight dip might coincide with some fatigue or maybe that we’ve reduced our reliance on him. For his first few games he was our sole outlet, giving him all opportunity to shine.

He’s got a very high ceiling and still relatively inexperienced for his age - he will get better with constant games. If we stay up, he’d be the first bit of transfer business I did.
