Not to take away from the thread positivity, but what was this about his post game stuff that was mentioned?
In the interview with RadOx after the match, when asked "The decision to leave Brentford to join Oxford United for the rest of the season, was that an easy one to make for you?" he replied "Definitely not, but at this stage of my career at this age I just want to play football and show everyone what I am capable of. Minutes are very important for my age and my career, so Oxford could give me that platform".

With his tone of voice, if you combine this with the short-term contract, it very much sounded to me like "I'm just here to put myself in the shop window for the summer".

As long as he uses that motivation to do the job and keep us up, then if he wants to b****r off in the summer, fair enough. Does make me wonder how that mentality goes down with the rest of the squad though. If it gets read as "I'm better than a club like this and am only here to catch the eye of a bigger club" then it could leave a sour taste in the mouths of players who have sweat blood and tears to get the club to this level (CamBran, Long, Brown, etc).

But maybe that's not how he meant it, so I don't want to paint him as having a bad attitude. He was clearly shattered after playing such a long match, so maybe it was more down to that, and he might otherwise have spoken with more enthusiasm.

He did sound borderline arrogant, but when you're thrown into such a long game having barely met your teammates, a bit of ego is normal - just look at how he took the penalty.

He did speak highly of the board and Ed toward the end of the interview which was positive.

Did well tonight. Great pen under pressure..

Must admit when it went to pens, I thought they would win 5 - 0
we never get a penalty….

If he is here to try and secure a move to a top end Championship or lower league PL club, he'll need to perform very well.

I have no issues with that whatsoever, so long as his definition of performing well is getting the best out of himself *and* the team.

Think he did mean it like that and as I said earlier in the thread if he comes , and is a temp legend fantastic and he deserves his deal elsewhere

Not the case. We have already agreed a long-term deal with him on the basis that we stay up. He leaves if we go down.

I think you can see there's a quality player in there I hope the coaching team know how to get it out of him . I think he will be a real asset going in to the second half of the season as long as there's no big ego bolloxs

His penalty reminded me of Ivan Toney in the last euros

There was a moment when he was through but didn't want to be selfish so ended up fluffing his chance

In the interview he basically said Toney taught him how to take pens

I listened to that and my take was that he was gutted to leave the premier league and the club he thought he was going to make a breakthrough ergo it’s not an easy decision to make leaving.

We are over thinking this so much as usual. (Well those, if any who have an issue). Oxford will give him the platform to prove that he can cut it at a higher level than Brentford under 23s. It it works he might have the option to move to a higher level. That’s fine because if it doesn’t work and he’s more like Malcolm Ebiowei than Josh Murphy then you can bet your big bag of Oxford love, sweat and tears we wouldn’t want to keep paying him.

Cam Bran, Longy and even the worst of those on the WATG would understand that.

Maybe he see's himself playing at a higher level and, yes, sees us a shop window if he plays well. Self belief. Nothing wrong with that and if it motivates him to play well then it is good for us.

Being pedantic (out of character for me I know...) you can't lose a penalty shootout 5-0, it would stop at 3-0.

...but I agree, my first thought was 'we won't score one" as well.

As I said earlier in the thread, I hope he proves to everyone that he’s a premiership player and we’re not good enough to keep him. If he does, we’ll probably be plying our trade in the Championship again.

Refreshing to have a player be open and honest about his aspirations. Not pretending it’s been a childhood dream to play for OUFC ever since playing in a cage beneath the A40 in West London.

I think this would be a very uncharitable reading of his ambition. If this upset the rest of the squad then I’d be worried about the mentality of the players in it.

I don't think it helps to over analyse everything that is said, and try to fill in the gaps. He was on the bench in the PL a couple of nights ago, but stepped away from that and his contract to sign a short term deal at a club in the Championship relegation places.

Of course that was going to be a difficult decision.

He then has the choice about whether to accept a career in lower league football or to fight to get back to the PL. I'd take someone with that fight to succeed every day and hope that he does, and does it for us.

As for his immediate future, I think that @Yemi-God is right and a deal will be in place for him to remain when we stay up. The reason I say this is that the aftercare from Brentford is very good for their young players. He would have been support by his agent, his family, AND Brentford to get a deal that is right for him. I can't believe that any of them would have advised him to sign a deal that leaves him high and dry in the summer. Equally, there's no reason why Oxford would hold the risk of a permanent deal without any guarantees at the end of the season.

Personally, I think this deal is the best for all parties and I hope that Myles is playing for us for many years and achieves all of his ambitions with us, or for someone else with us picking up a huge transfer fee. Either way, these are exactly the type of transfers we need to do more of and this bodes well for the rest of this window and into the summer.

I’m not sure it was the best penalty if I’m honest, it went in so of course you can’t argue with it but I think those type of taken penalties are easier to read and the MK keeper did go the right way. Much prefer the drilled, with power, Cam Brannagan style pen.

Pretty encouraging. Not sure he looks that rapid. Took up good positions. Shielded the ball well.

I like his contract situation. He won't feel trapped - a razor-edge focus on the next 4 months.

If he helps keep us up, there's a good prospect of a longer deal with no fee.

It's like a loan, but better than a loan.

Excellent energy for a first game when only expected to play 30 minutes, seemed every where ,much needed energy, a CDM and another midfielder needed, but great effort 👌

No young player at a prem side dreams of playing in the Championship, that would be weird, so if he wants to do all he can to get back there fair enough, don’t see why he should have to give up on that at 23 years old. As long as he puts the graft in what what’s the problem? Would people rather have a Dembele situation where someone earns a lot of money and refuses to do what he is told in training?
