Four years is a great deal for him but I'm not altogether surprised he's got a good Championship club, when he arrived he was clearly a level above what we had. Reminded me of how McGuane used to start seasons, technically and physically excellent and playing like he wanted to prove he was the best player on the pitch each week but couldn't maintain it. Terrible lack of commitment in the final third though, scored a few goals but the amount of times he got into good positions and feathered a shot down the middle with no conviction at all was frustrating, just whack it lad.

I thought of McGuane too - who got his championship move but has slipped down again
 
Boro are having a somewhat strange summer. Sold Hayden Hackney for £60m, brought in MPH for free and are rumoured to be after Kyle Joseph for £5m!

Good move for MPH, he looks like the sort of player who would benefit from playing in a better team, perhaps where he doesn't have to put in so much of the hard graft. The thing I always thought he did well for us was travel 20+ yards with the ball before drawing a foul from the opposition. Not a groundbreaking trait, but sometimes it is good to relieve a bit of pressure and set up set piece opportunities in the oppositions half.

£16m!

I know football's gone a bit mad, but not quite made enough that anyone will pay £60m for a good-not-great 24 year-old Championship midfielder!

Think he played best as a no 10/CAM but he got shifted out left quite a bit where I dont think he was as effective.
 
Looked a good player until the last month, but if this was the sort of deal that was in the pipeline he was never going to put it all on the line. Problem with the sort of deal we had with him, he was never going to be our player the following season, but you have to cut these deals to get better players.
 
Looked excellent in that ‘wide 10’ hybrid we played for a few games in late January to February, but then once the system changed, so did his performances
