While the media is only quoting numbers of deaths due to the virus, are there any long-term effects for those that survive?
Not any more than there are with flu as far as I understand it - and given that many people have the virus without even knowing it (so they have 'survived') I suspect unless you are elderly and have other pretty serious health issues that most of us would be survivors. Not to say it isn't worrying of course - my mum is both elderly and asthmatic.

Somebody has suggested that that some survivors have permanent fibrosis of the lungs but don't know the source.

You need to stop using the A420! Lots of cameras on that road apparently.
..... theres actually not, theres only 2 (working) Gatos on A420, theyre between Oxford & 'the other place', both in Oxfordshire..... currently all fixed Gatsos in Wiltshire are no longer working or maintained, an early result of austerity cuts to county council budgets, theyve not been switched off for quite some time now ( as @Essexyellows may well point out, austerity cuts can , albeit occasionally have some 'benefits' ;) )

Is their actually much need for fixed Gatso cameras with the disgraceful conditions of the ( multi potholed ) roads 'everywhere in England? ( Except in Maidenhead, Mrs May, local MP there, after being 'ousted' as PM, pressurised the local cc to repair all potholes immidiately, and they did....guess she took her magic money tree home with her? :sneaky: )

The obvious issue is how long will the season be ‘suspended’ for? Reports suggest that we are at least a year to 18 months from any sort of vaccine being available. Do we postpone until one is readily available which will probably be into 2022? There was also somebody speaking on the radio about closing churches, community halls and even pubs! The social and economical impact of this will be far more serious than the virus itself. And what are people going to do if they cant socialise in pubs, bars and restaurants? Meets at peoples houses obviously, so what are we gaining?
And as its been pointed out several times, theres as much chance of contracting the virus in the local supermarket than at a football match.

And dont get me started on school closures and the panic that that prospect is causing in our house with my partners daughter about to do her gcse exams in a few months time..

Got a link? I hadn't heard that

No, just what somebody else has said on another forum but they didn't link a source and a quick google didn't show anything so could be utter rubbish. The reason I mentioned it as the person has been pretty good on their info when talking about the subject earlier, but as said could be rubbish.

Starting to wonder if this might be the last home game not played behind closed doors for a while...
I hope not. Booked to come over for Easter. Everything paid for (flights, hotel), just the match-day tickets to buy.
I will be really peed off if I can't see a match.

More good news from the Conservative Government.... :) ?

apparently (tweet shared on the Coronavirus duty of care thread - posted by @Shosho ) instead of testing the population, as some other countries have, the caring tory's headed by 'good' old Bojo , have proclaimed 'we' , the UK, 'should take 'it' (covid 19) on the chin':rolleyes::mad:

The only thing I can easily find (first couple of pages of google hits) is this https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2020/02/200228142018.htm which suggests that pulmonary fibrosis is something that should be looked for because it is found in SARS and MERS cases. I would guess there hasn't been time yet to see this kind of thing pan out.

I have been pleased to see that some fellow structural biologists have already solved the structures of some of the important proteins from the coronavirus, in some cases with inhibitor molecules (potential drugs) bound. Things have really sped up - when HIV was first characterised it took 2-3 years for the first protein structures and another year or two for the first structure-based drug leads. http://www.rcsb.org/news?year=2020&article=5e3c4bcba5007a04a313edcc

He didn't proclaim that at all. He said that it was "one of the theories" without endorsing the theory nor rubbishing it either. He did talk about striking a balance but the clip was cut at that point.
Fairly sensible really to play down the whole panic situation that is being propogated at the moment.

Can you imagine how staggeringly anticlimactic it would be to win promotion on the final day of the season against Bolton in front of an empty stadium? It would be really weird - players celebrating with a trophy and podium in the centre circle with literally only the coaching staff there to see it.

If stadiums were closed for a few games, OUFC would surely be pretty fucked financially. Still have to pay rent on the stadium with none of the ticket sales to offset it. I imagine they would have to refund some season tickets too: lets say all further games from this weekend are to be played behind closed doors - that's 5 home games that ST holders have paid for and would be missing, which is over 20% of games they have already paid for! Or is that a risk you take when you purchase a ST (not a holder myself)?

I'd be surprised if there was any refunds for season tickets as it isn't within the club's control. There wasn't a refund for the Bury game for instance.

What will stopping a few sporting events achieve? We will all still have to go to work and that will still give it ample chance to spread.
I get the point that viruses could spread from normal daily life, but to have several thousand people in a fairly confined space for a sporting event, is likely to present an increases risk that isn't necessary.

If, and it's a massive if, the virus leads to 100,000+ deaths in the uk as some are predicting, would the lose of a few games of football really matter?

Nope, we'd be there in the car park standing on cars, flatbeds, stepladders, boxes etc. Or at least I would!
