Mick Brown's retirement has been officially announced by the club.

His dedication and contribution to the club over 44 years as an employee is extraordinary. May not always have seen eye-to-eye, but have always had massive respect.

Having a pre season testimonial at home against Leyton Orient, ex players like Eddie Hutchinson coming back. We can laugh now can't we?

Fair play to him, he started the London Road club before I was born and that was how I attended my first away matches back in the 90s, its still going now so that alone is some legacy. 44 years working for the same company is some shift as well, hope he enjoys his retirement.

Great level of service to the club, he made mistakes but don't we all.

Well done Mick 👏

Well deserved. He lived near to me in Fleet and we enjoyed a couple of drinks. I gave him a couple of boxes of programmes to sell on to help the clubs finances.
Enjoy your games in the north stand next season, Mick. Hope they’re free for you.
On the other hand it’d be nice to see him as a director.

Another of the 'old guard' is gone. The club is undergoing radical change off the pitch. Mick is a legend for OUFC.

As an aside, Adam Harris of the hospitality side of the club has also announced that he is moving on. A true fan, and supporter. He felt it was time.

All change behind the scenes.

“Every football club, however big or small, needs a Mick Brown. Oxford United were the lucky ones.”

Indeed. And the reason every club needs a Mick Brown is because they need some continuity of knowledge and experience, someone who really understands the club because of its context and history. That's not something you can buy and replace. Happy retirement Mick.

A well deserved retirement too. Thank You Mick for getting us young lads on a supporters coach to see away games when there was no coaches available to us. A good servant to the club and a legend too for what he has done.

My memory isn't what it use to be was it Cambridge ?
Yes it was, the police stopped the coaches outside cambridge, most of us did’nt get in to the ground until 3.15 which really pissed people off, we lost as usual, however the main thing that sticks in my mind was the pitch invasion that followed the end of the game and the dismantling of the goal posts as well!

My first trip on the London Road club coaches was back in '81. They used to depart from Gloucester Green in those days. I didn't know about buying the coach tickets from the hut outside the London Road stand at the time. So I turned up at GG and asked Mick for a ticket, but he was a bit preoccupied at the time. Good old Womble, ushered me onto the coach and soon we were off. 20 minutes or so into the trip, Mick Brown came around the coach to check for tickets. I told him I didn't have one. "Did you book?" he said. Scared stiff, I said "yes". Ok, was the reply (knowing Smile) "That will be £5 then." Blooming good job that there was 1 empty seat on the coach. Never forget that. Never made that mistake again either. Top bloke.
