Well they did sign possibly our greatest striker in thirty odd years (twice!) in Roofe, so they get at least one thing very right!
I don't count Roofe as a striker. Similarly with Maguire.
More attacking midfielders/10's.
The forum would encourage all members to consider joining OxVox during this important moment in our history. See here for more information.

Agree with this. Murphy looked to have lead in his boots when he was running but certainly knew how to arrive in the penalty area and find the net.Hugely underrated - scored over 1 goal in every 3 games he started for us from midfield - can you imagine the plaudits a player would get today if they scored over 15 goals this Season from that position?
Arriving late into the box was his specialty, how he got a large number of his goals. You can argue that was down to his game awareness or that he was just getting there as quickly as he could for as long as you wish.Agree with this. Fans might have under appreciated Matt Murphy but these skills were definitely recognised within the game.Arriving late into the box was his specialty, how he got a large number of his goals.
I like the courage it takes to just openly admit you read Frank Lampard's autobiography Totally Frank.Fans might have under appreciated Matt Murphy but these skills were definitely recognised within the game.
It’s why Lampard made that small reference to him in his autobiography Totally Frank when talking about his loan at Swansea.
I think that it was goalkeepers they really struggled with.I don't think that Appleton and his recruitment team were particularly good at identifying strikers. Although Appleton had left before Obika was signed, I think the signing was decided upon before Clotet was appointed, especially looking at the signings that followed.

Has anyone actually listened to get the correct answer, I did try but it was behind a subscription paywall!“He was on another planet… probably the best player I’ve ever coached.”
Got to be Kemar, Shirley?
I’m sad enough to admit that I bought a second-hand copy just to read the small para on him praising Matt Murphy.I like the courage it takes to just openly admit you read Frank Lampard's autobiography Totally Frank.
I don't care what people say, that's nothing to be ashamed of.
No, but it's still not considered polite to talk about it in genteel circlesI like the courage it takes to just openly admit you read Frank Lampard's autobiography Totally Frank.

David Platt was another one. Didn’t ever think he was that great overall but certainly knew how to time his runs into the box which obviously is a fantastic skill to haveFans might have under appreciated Matt Murphy but these skills were definitely recognised within the game.

Obika was a fine foil for another striker, we tried to play him as the main striker!I don't think that Appleton and his recruitment team were particularly good at identifying strikers. Although Appleton had left before Obika was signed, I think the signing was decided upon before Clotet was appointed, especially looking at the signings that followed.
Really rated Platt.David Platt was another one. Didn’t ever think he was that great overall but certainly knew how to time his runs into the box which obviously is a fantastic skill to have
For anyone interested Martin Gray is now a multimillionaire having set up a very lucrative football academy.Really rated Platt.
He’d have been even better if he’d had Martin Gray playing behind him.
He was a great player too.For anyone interested Martin Gray is now a multimillionaire having set up a very lucrative football academy.
Drives an Aston. Just goes to show it’s not always the talent that pays the bills, it’s what you do with it.
He absolutely was not a great player. He was a great player too.
He was like having a terrier in the middle. Did the ugly stuff to allow players like Beauchamp to shine.
I’d have hated to play against him, personally. He absolutely was not a great player.
He was great at what he did and as it’s been said, he allowed players like Joey and Rush do what they did.He absolutely was not a great player.
Underrated does not equal greatHe was great at what he did and as it’s been said, he allowed players like Joey and Rush do what they did.
A very underrated player for us IMO.
Great player is overegging it. Plus, he was a knob.He was a great player too.

Think he said Riyad Mahrez was the best player he ever coached.Has anyone actually listened to get the correct answer, I did try but it was behind a subscription paywall!
My guess is Morgan Rogers though who he had at Lincoln
I’d have hated to play against him, personally.
Yeah, I had had a few sherries last night when I said “great”. Great at what he did, is what I meant really.Great player is overegging it.
As great as Kemar was for us in League Two, it’ll probably be Riyad Mahrez!“He was on another planet… probably the best player I’ve ever coached.”
