One of the final chances to watch England play the hosts in one of the most iconic stadiums ever, in a World Cup, to get to a quarter final, and I see grown ups say they're missing it to feel fresh for work and a job they will be in until retirement. Baffles me.
 
Long day out planned for the Sunday and checking into a hotel for the night. I will try to stay up but signs are not looking good.
 
Will sleep on the couch, set an alarm for 5 minutes before, alarm again for the second half, really hoping we get through in normal time though, but up at 6.30am monday so not a lot of kip.
 
My body doesnt allow me staying up past 12 otherwise I'll feel horrible and groggy the next day. I guess this is what it's like watching cricket.
 
It's a must for me. I hate FIFA, but I love the world cup.

I'll never forget the loss to Brazil in 2002 - my school absolutely hated football and championed rugby. But for that day, at the insistence of my young maths teacher, a home and away Shef Wed fan (my school was in Somerset so fair play), the entire school dropped its pathetic ego and made it all about the game. I got the fever that day and the prospect of Brazil int he next round is obviously calling out to me.

I'll definitely need a snooze beforehand but I'll be there with a red bull at midnight.

Yeah, I dunno what I'm going to do. I might get up quite early, avoid news and phone and watch it then. My wife is brilliant at knowing the score but keeping an absolute poker face and not letting me find out.

Never understood this. It's live sport. If it's already happened how can you enjoy it as though it's live?

Don't get me wrong, I can imagine watching back if you missed it and fancy seeing how it all panned out (knowing the result) - but how can you pretend to be emotionally invested in the twists and turns of something that is already done with?

Just seems really weird to me.

You’ve never enjoyed watching highlights of a sporting event, not knowing the result? That’s almost all I have time for on most things apart from Oxford or England now and I don’t mind it - much better than if you’ve seen or been told the result.

Having said that I wouldn’t watch the whole game back after the event, for some reason I find that a bit odd. But highlights? Absolutely

If I don't know the score and am in a bubble it's like it is live. I quite often watch things later (though generally highlights) and manage not to find out the scores in advance. I'd have to tell mates not to text about it though, could be tricky

But this is England, surely you'll have a strong urge to fast forward a lot when we are playing at walking pace kicking the ball between the central defenders...

I'll just watch the second half, we'll start 1 down but I'l be confident we can ovehaul it.

Our school got us all into the old small gym hall with one of those tvs on wheels and we all watched it together, was nice but then after we lost we had english class an I remember sitting there doing 0 work cause i was so annoyed seaman got lobbed like that
I distinctly remember being amazed that id be 16 next time the world cup rolled around and how id be sooo old at that point

2002 World Cup I taped England Nigeria match as I was working lates, easy enough to avoid the score back then if you watched it as soon as you got up. It was an incredibly tedious nil nil, never again.

Ha I did that with England v Algeria 0-0, my wife did let her mask slip and ask if I was sure I wanted to watch it.
 
We have a flight the next morning which were leaving for at 6.30...

So tempted to get my head down 10-1, watch the game, then get whatever sleep I can after. On holidays for a couple of weeks, so plenty of time for catch up.

Assume I'll be able to catch the next rounds (if we are in them) in Italy...
