I didn’t think I’d ever be saying this about a 33yo seemingly ‘on his way down’ after a top flight career.

But Matt Phillips has been one of the players who has got me off my seat in international and domestic games for some years. A proper player. His experience, guile and top, top quality will rub off on our young squad and he’ll be a great person to have around the training ground, dressing room and on the pitch. Imagine what he can help GO’D with.

Plus I hope we finally get that ‘striker coach’ that we’ve been missing for so long, once his playing days are over.

I hope he’s a huge success here. He’s one player alone who would get me off my exiled backside and attend more games. I’m thrilled with this signing and even if we only get 20 games a season out of him, his presence around the club will be worth what we’re paying him.

I like this signing a lot. Not too dissimilar from Bennett’s profile who has oozed class when playing for us, regardless of age. You really see the premier league experience come out in him so if Phillips is anything remotely similar he’ll be a cracking signing.

Injury tag doesn’t really worry me. We haven’t got many in our ranks now and he obviously looks after himself. if Ebiowei arrives as well, they could be excellent sharing the minutes.
