Ex-Staff Matt Bloomfield

Sounds like Danny Mills is a fan of Bloomers:View attachment 35711
Not wholly surprising when it sounds like there was a possibility Mills would leave on loan under Rowett before Bloomfield had him looking like a Championship winger for the run in.

Hopefully he hangs around for us a bit in League One. Smart clubs will most likely be taking a look at him, especially as a possible wing back option

Yes, you could argue it amounts to "he played my kid more". And to be fair, it was bizarre that Rowett didn't.

Are you still banging on about Bloomfield not being good enough& that you don’t want him as manager.

Making a point that there’s a shed lot of hypocrisy on this thread, from you included.

Hahaha i suggest that you read my last comments on Bloomfield again....here they are for you to enjoy over your lunch:

FWIW, i too would have releived Bloomfield immediately after the final game of the season. Now that he is here, i expect him to get until the October international break, at least. It would be bizarre to give him the summer window, to then sack him after 5 or 6 games.

I sincerley hope that he is successful; i have my doubts, which i think are legitimate considering his failure to keep us up and his performance at Luton.

Can you see the difference? One of us is talking about a bloke, that wasn't backed last summer in the same way that Bloomfield was in January, and who left 6 months ago. The other one of us is providing context to support our opinions and still providing Bloomfield with the opportunity to put things right in the upcomimg season.

Point me in the direction of the hypocrisy...

You can’t wait for him to fail.

That’s where the hypocrisy comes in, along with a fair few others on this forum.

Have that opinion, I don’t lose sleep over it but it’s hypocritical to say you want him to be successful but you’d of relieved him of his role straight after Milwall.

As I said, people can’t wait for him to fail, even though he’s bought into what this club means, especially when others never did.

You would have done what to him after the final game? 😳

You're just wrong there, totally and utterly wrong.

Every single one of us would rather eat their words than see an OUFC manager fail.

Again, this is just emotive nonsense.

What is the 'buy in' and how has Bloomfield somehow demonstrated it?

I think what you mean is that you warm to him as an individual (which is fine, of course) - but unfortunately it's not in any way relevant to his competency as manager.

But it's not every day you get a manager sprint over to the fans and fist pump after a win then not pick up a win in the seven games after that. He just gets it

I don't think it is possible to debate with with someone that cannot see beyond his own agenda..i literally said, that now that it appears he is being given the summer, he should get a fair crack at it, not just 5 or 6 games.

If you remove the emotive agenda that you have regarding Bloomfield, you may be able to see things with a more balanced view. He isn't the devil incarnate because he took us down; but neither is he the second coming, just because he gives a few fist pumps and says 'our club' () in every interview.

I like a manager that engages the fans but it’s peripheral imo. I’d take a monotone drifter of a manager that wins and lets the style of football build the rapport rather than one that can use charisma to mask mediocre performance.

The players were definitely lifted by the change of manager but it’s always difficult to say how much is the buoyancy brought by Bloomfield’s character (no doubting he seems a thoroughly decent bloke) and how much is relief when a prickly grumpy git like Rowett is removed from their personal space. It will be a mix, but to what extent either way only the players know.

It’s made even more difficult to see by it being generally a hard working set of players by default - another thing most managers aren’t lucky enough to inherit that Bloomfield could have got more from imo.

I actually think it’s the opposite, it’s his pashunate personality that means people give him a chance.

If it was someone with the “personality” of David Kemp and a two consecutive relegations in two seasons, plus some of the tactics, I’d suggest people might not be as patient.
Also very likely. Mixed bag, but personality definitely sways people that extra bit, even subconsciously.

Bit shocked. Especially by the timing. Can’t say I’m disappointed.

Oooft! Hopefully the process for appointing a replacement started before today's announcement!

Oxford United can confirm the departure of Matt Bloomfield as Men’s First Team Head Coach.

Matt was appointed in January 2026 and oversaw the second half of the 2025/26 season, a campaign which ultimately ended in relegation to League One. Throughout his tenure, he represented Oxford United with professionalism and integrity.

We would like to thank Matt for his efforts and wish him every success in the future.

The process of appointing a new Men’s First Team Head Coach will begin immediately, and the Club will provide updates in due course.

Here we fuking go again, no stability, more managers than I’ve had hot dinners, what’s the next surprise 😳
