Ex-Staff Matt Bloomfield

It’s an irrelevant thread anyway as Bloomfield is in the post and not going anywhere, just give the guy a chance ffs. If he’s a monumental failure then feel free to slag him off. Some people are only happy if there’s a manager to slag off.
Well he hasn’t picked a point up home or away for over 6 weeks now. Worrying times

You all seem to overlook that the Indonesian tournament was an interruption in the build up to the coming season commencing 2025.
If you remember the board even said it won’t be the end of the world if we get relegated when we looked doomed .

This is a ridiculous question.

Since when did we have to become OUFC employees to hold an opinion on OUFC staff?
I'm just wondering where the line is drawn. To qualify your belief that Bloomfield should be sacked shouldn't you be confident that there are attainable replacements who are better than him? We ran a recruitment process six months ago and in a higher league and he was the chosen interested candidate, so why are we so sure that it'd be easy to upgrade?

I think there is every chance if we have a very poor start they will pull the trigger.

They have already let Mitchell leave & if Dodds goes then I can’t see him being too happy about that.

If that translates into a poor start Eric will not hang around.

He will be expecting us to get off to a strong start and if we don’t then I think that he’s in trouble.

I personally think he deserves a good go at it.
Eric was hardly razor sharp all of last season to the clubs detriment

If he is likely to be gone after only 5 or 6 games surely better to try to tempt someone like Challinor and pull the trigger now

In case anyone has forgotten Rowett who did what was needed but obvs felt he could do the same at Leicester who are now looking at another albeit unpopular "ropey" candidate. People need to chill out a bit and let the summer "off season" play out and assume that a reasonable amount of legwork has already been done or in progress. Just my opinion.

There is no blind spot, his beloved Wycombe that was doing ok ,he jumped ship . Then got Luton relegation .. I rest my case...
Wycombe were doing very well.
Such a polarised debate.
Bloomfield did a very good job getting Wycombe competing near the top of yhe table when Birmingham and Wrexham had spent huge money. You say he was doing 'ok'
He had done a pretty good job at Colchester.

He took over Luton who were in real trouble and sure they went down. In L1 18 players has left and it was a real rebuild. They had a very poor start.

Yeah, those Stoke, Millwall, Portsmouth, Norwich, Derby and Wrexham games I thought 'bloody hell we really came out firing there'....
Wouldn’t have needed to be so desperate for a result in those games if Rowett had give a s**t for the first half of the season.

You say Challinor as an example?

The same challinor that is basically at the same level Bloomfield is?

No guarantee he would want to move south and honestly no guarantee he’d be any better than Bloomfield.

I personally don’t feel he should he sacked, but if he doesn’t get off to a good start then his position should be reconsidered.

My issue is posters that do want him to be sacked being immediately shut down on a forum just because they aren’t able to name a replacement.

I haven’t seen anyone be shut down, just asked to provide an alternative

It’s a different role. One was trying to keep us up in the Championship.
The role now is trying to get a recently relegated Championship side repromoted with one of the leagues biggest budgets. The same role Bloomfield failed in this time last year.

I thought I'd look back at when Des got sacked and interestingly 90% of people who voted whether to keep him or not said they would keep him. At that time we had won just 4 out of 20 league games, losing 10 of them. Since Bloomfield came in he has won 6 out of 21 league games and lost 8.

I can only conclude from this that all Matt Bloomfield needs to do is change his name to Des Buckingham, get a tattoo sleeve and all will be fine with the fan base.

You say that like was hired as a specialist firefighter in January. He was clearly hired with an eye on this season rather than going for the Rowett approach

I wouldn’t say their duds Des got us promoted and Rowett kept us up.
Yes, agree - slightly poorly phrased.

The point I was making is that if I'm the person responsible for hiring managers, if I have to do it every 12 months then it probably doesn't reflect too well on me. So I'd be inclined to give them a fair crack of the whip.

Well the promotion probably played a bigger part than the tattoos.

Luton started the season with an incoherent squad (unsurprisingly given double relegation turnover), which meant nigel lonwijk was their starting wing back! FWIW I don't think that shields bloomfield from some criticism but seems to be getting overlooked.

Early signs of the squad we're building for L1 (which started in january) are pretty good I think and should help get the best out of Bloomfield.

If not then fair enough, he won't last long. But the idea he was underachieving with the best squad in L1 last year seems untrue to me.

In January Oxford United were an established Championship club with the managerial market at their disposal, with money to spend and the very real and attainable prospect of staying up with a bit of backbone and belief on and off the pitch if only everyone could pull in the same direction and believed in, and expected more of, this fantastic football club.

Also (large numbers of) Oxford United 'supporters'...

Bloomfield took on a lost cause and he knew it but he tried and that speaks volumes.

Rowett was sacked on December 23rd

Are you seriously suggesting that we wrote off the season after 22 league games and made an appointment with an eye on relegation and League One…?

Do me a favour

We hadn’t given up but the club certainly had 1 eye on playing in League 1 this coming season. Roosken being one signing which was for preparation for league 1 as was McDonnell.

How do you know that the club had an eye on League One based on signing Roosken & McDonnell in January?

That’s just complete guesswork.
