Ex-Staff Matt Bloomfield

We know! They mention it on every thread over and over again.
He came 4th in who this forum wanted when there was a poll, above him was Manning, Still and Sheehan. Behind him in the poll was ‘none of the above’ and Martin so I’m not sure it is true that a lot of people were always against the appointment.

A lot less than probably would, thanks to your policing of opinions.
And Steve, to be fair, who has even done you the honour of adopting your posting style of short condescending questions. Two peas in a pod, lovely to see.

It’s a forum for a football club. Most topics cross over and a manager is bound to be a key feature in most. You so often say how tedious this place is yet completely oblivious to your contribution. Nothing wrong with the points made earlier on both sides yet here we are again, dragged down to a tit for tat borefest.

Bloomfield will start the season as manager.

In the same way with those demanding constant statements from the club, actions speak far more than words.

I'll judge both by their actions throughout preseason and into the season proper. I have high expectations for the season and would expect us to be challenging for promotion and playing decent football. I hope that we're not only planning for a league one campaign but also looking ahead to being better equipped to remain if we do go up. I hope that we're looking to keep the likes of Mills and BDK and bring in more players like Spencer and Currie.

And of we fail on and off the pitch then I'll join the criticism that will inevitably come.

But moaning about this the first weekend of June is not only premature but also entirely pointless.

Do we just forget the catastrophic relegation then Scotchers? Are we supposed to be so excited to compete in a league we battled to get out of only 2 years ago?

No, not forgotten. But it's where we are and I'm excited about seeing us put together a team to challenge for promotion, under someone I consider to be a decent manager at this level.

Unlike you who gave up on the club in September or BTCW who gave up before a ball had even been kicked last season, I'll support my team through thick and thin.

Or attribute blame to those who had a far bigger say in our relegation than Bloomfield and give him a chance in a different environment to show what he can do

In some people’s minds, an avoidable relegation as a result of failing to get the team up for very winnable games and an expensive transfer window is not to be counted. It starts now apparently.

I wish my bosses were as patient in my EOY assessment.
Could we have stayed up under Bloomfield? Yes probably with some minor changes or a slice of luck here and there.

Let’s not pretend the task wasn’t made 10x harder by Rowett effectively throwing the towel in and throwing away winnable games like Charlton away for example.

Bloomfield won’t get given much rope anyway, he’ll know a poor first 5/6 games and he’ll be gone.

Forget relegation and putting the blame on one or two people, it was a collective responsibility of everyone at the club , however Bloomfield, in my opinion is least to blame if at all . Bloomfield took on a lost cause and he knew it but he tried and that speaks volumes. I’m happy with the changes at the top as there has been far to much money , in salaries and transfers that has been wasted and could of been spent more wisely (my opinion) I, for one look forward to an exciting 26/27 season I hope you are !

I know it's your bit to be relentlessly negative and miserable...but if you're genuinely putting relegation on Bloomfield, you're being completely and utterly daft.

Oh he was culpable, though it wasnt just him. We needed a win and two draws more, which wasn’t an insurmountable aim, especially after going on a decent run once Konak came into the team.

Which is why I’m not, but so many people seem to almost gloss over the part he played because he’s a nice guy who cares.

Sorry but this makes no sense at all - my personal view is that Bloomfield is not the man to take us forward but its not my money or my decision so there we go

But there is no way he would be gone after "a poor first 5/6 games" and it would be pointless if that was the intention

I think there is every chance if we have a very poor start they will pull the trigger.

They have already let Mitchell leave & if Dodds goes then I can’t see him being too happy about that.

If that translates into a poor start Eric will not hang around.

He will be expecting us to get off to a strong start and if we don’t then I think that he’s in trouble.

I personally think he deserves a good go at it.

I don't think he'll get much time

It's impossible to put an arbitrary number of games on things. You get promoted after 46 games, not 10 and certainly not 5 or 6 and before the transfer window closes.

I want to see a clear plan, an identifiable style of play and the ability to adapt to different opposition. We're going to be one of the big guys now, and likely to face teams who sit deep in numbers. Fast counter-attacking football won't cut it, so I want to see how we can play through teams, or draw them out and get behind them. Which is why I'm sure we'll look to keep BDK.

That might take a little while, especially if we're still doing big business at the end of the transfer window and looking to integrate players in.

That doesn't give anyone a free hit, but staying in contention as we build is more likely to prove successful than panicking a few weeks in and having to start again.

I don't think these owners are going to hang around. If Bloomfield doesn't make a fast start he'll be gone imo. I have never been a fan of this appointment. I have always thought it was a strange choice for a very ambitious club. Ten games into a new season is usually considered the benchmark. There are always outliers, but generally the direction of the season is set after ten games or so. I have very little confidence in him tbh. But I hope I'm proved wrong.

He was the one who gave us a chance - there'd have been no decent run without him. I was there at Charlton in Rowett's last game. We were completely done.

To me, it seems there's a section that didn't want Bloomfield to begin with - maybe because they were underwhelmed by the appointment or due to the Wycombe connections - and have been waiting for the first chance to call for him to go, and it's really unhelpful.

He didn't keep a team up that was going down anyway. Granted, he made a couple of odd choices, but we'd have down weeks before had we kept the previous manager.

He was brought in with League One in mind. Now we're here, it would be lunacy to sack him considering we're already changing other key positions, and there will be a big turnover of players.

He's clearly going nowhere, so can't we just back him? And I mean actually back him. Not just for the first 5/10 games, where if we don't pick up some arbitrary number of points, we then turn on him.
