Welcome aboard Matt, wish you the very best of luck, your’ll be a good fit 🙏🏻☝🏻👍🏻

Good luck to Matt! Definitely one of the better choices on the shortlist and whilst it may not have been everyone's preferred target, it's someone that bolsters experience as a player and as a coach and will no doubt have significant knowledge of the leagues and players. Also has worked with an established coaching team so he's not a one-man band. I think the players will warm to him - certaninly something that William Stilliam failed to do and Alan Sheerahan thinks he can do better but let's be real, he'll likely be managing Newport or Doncaster this time next year.

Bloomfield's first interview was fine. Lot of cliche manager speak.

But I don't really care about that tbh. One of the easiest things in football is to come across well in your first interview as a new manager - I'm delighted to be here, I want my team to play good football, it's a big club, fans are amazing etc etc etc.

All that matters is how he performs, and I think there is a lot to like about the appointment. A risk? Sure. But so is every appointment.

I think it's a start in restoring some standards in terms of quality of football and style of play, and I'm sure Matt Bloomfield will be as determined as ever to prove the doubters wrong.

Appleton and Manning had both experienced failure before coming here, but had clearly learned a lot from those mistakes and brought that into the work they did here. We can only hope MB will be able to do the same.

A sensible and realistic appointment for where we are.
He needs to make this work, and he will know that.
This counts massively in our favour.
Crucially, we need to deliver him at least two more first team signings.

That was something that leapt out at me.

"An announcement regarding any additions to Matt’s coaching staff will be made in due course."

If he gets the same runaround that Des suffered then the SMT will deserve every criticism going. Nobody likes to see staff leave but, if the new man works best with his own team around him, then that's what he should get. Manning turned up with an entourage and it worked.
Nothing against any of the current coaching staff but this is football and it's a hard world.

I hope that any announcement has just been delayed to finalise contracts, salary etc. I would also hope that Shorty's contribution is recognised. Perhaps Hacket could return to his previous role. Vital, at this time, is that our status as a Championship side is made safe. Anything else is secondary.
Long overdue clear out that really needs sorting!

Interestingly, does anyone honestly believe we will be bringing in additional coaching staff?

It’s almost word for word the messaging used when Des was appointed.

Both Richard Thomas and Ben Cirne are currently unattached, wouldn’t have thought they’d be difficult deals to do if we had been intending to…..
Yes. But I think it would be quite disrespectful to bring in replacements for Short and Hackett without sitting down with them first. Wouldn't make sense to do that before tonight's game.

I do too. They have done so much for the club and I like to think Oxford would show them some loyalty at least for now.

Indeed just as mentioned after the gane he will need that intel on the players quite quickly and sounds like they have already run a rule over the squad

I thought he spoken very well in that interview hope he is able to bring in his own staff only time will tell as the coaching staff needs a reset feels like we need to start again and hopefully retain our championship status in doing so .It will be very interesting what players leave and hopefull matt has had his say on who comes in .Looking forward to some proper football again. Now looking forward to bristol and qpr games COYY.

What worries me above anything else us and Luton just follow each other in absolutely everything

Div 2 champion luton 81-82
Oxford 84-85

League cup oxford 86 Luton 88

Relegated to non league Luton quickly followed us
We get out of non league Luton follow

Luton go up the leagues
We follow shortly after

Luton get planning permission for new stadium
Oxford get planning shortly after

Luton appointment of bloomfield
We shortly follow with same appointment

🤣🤣🤣
When do we get our season in the prem then? 🧐

Bloomfield’s Wycombe Wanderers team 12 months ago looked full of energy, pressed high and got after teams. Their fitness levels looked to be incredibly high and they played with physicality too. Their attitude was spot on.They mostly gave every opponent a really difficult game and his side got to the play-offs under the uninspiring Mike Dodds who struggled after Bloomfield left for Luton.

So in time I am looking for a different mindset , a more motivated squad and improved fitness levels.

Bloomfield also said in his media conference that we could have a couple of extra signings through the door. We need freshening up.

If MB can recreate a similar approach with the mighty U's in the Championship, and with it steer us to a lower mid table finish come the end of the season, that'll do for me.
