Player tests positive......................https://www.leytonorient.com/2020/09/21/club-statement-covid-19/
Knock on effect for previous opponents and future ones.

In positive news Leicester Tigers got a quarter final bye after 3 Castres players tested positive and couldn`t travel so Castres voided the fixture.

It is understood that if Orient are unable to field a team, the game will be awarded to Spurs as there is not enough room in the schedule to rearrange the tie.

:) :) :)

While I get that it is Orient's fault that the game was off as they couldn't field a team, it does seem a bit harsh, especially considering it isn't their fault it can't be re-arranged. Interesting how they basically forced Liverpool to play their kids last year the day before they played in the World Club Championship, but not suggesting Spurs do the same.

You can understand why clubs are refusing tests when offered.

I think this is a dreadful decision - clubs should not be penalised for having players affected by COVID - bet it wouldn't happen if it happened on cup-final day!

Surely football needs clubs to not pass it between each other to keep the majority of games on schedule, so testing and postponing the odd game is far better than clubs nto taking tests then having 3,4,5 clubs exposed? Are Orient going to be docked points for any league games they miss too?

Once round 4 is completed next midweek, the next round after that is not until a few days before Christmas. Surely they can re-arrange whatever games are postponed into that 2.5 month gap to get back on schedule, without adversely affecting anyone...

It is the EFL you know..........statement released earlier today.

"The EFL has issued the following statement:

“In accordance with Carabao Cup Rules, Tottenham Hotspur have been awarded with a bye to progress to Round Four of the Carabao Cup and will now play Chelsea on Tuesday 29 September (kick off 7.45pm).

“The Round Three tie scheduled for Tuesday 22 September between Leyton Orient and Tottenham Hotspur could not take place following the issue by Waltham Forest Borough Council of an order preventing the match being played as planned. This followed a number of Leyton Orient players testing positive for COVID-19.

“The EFL Board has determined that in line with Carabao Cup Rule 5.1, the Club was unable to fulfil its obligations to complete the fixture by virtue of the Council’s order and shall therefore forfeit the tie.”

So (in line with the EFLs cup decision) who is awarded the three points?

Grimsby are overreacting if it's only one player who tested positive. All clubs knew the risks of playing this season so all games should be fulfilled. Even if that means using youth players.
