Anyone know when the timetable for the OX3 or OX4 is being put on pulhams website as its getting a bit close now and apparently if anyone gets the OX4 there are 3 mile tailbacks between burford and witney due to roadworks to the 19th august.

Mmmmmm of course you can, you swing in to the estates off the ring road, round & around both directions.a bit like the original no 10 bus did .pedestriatnation deffo made it worse.
You could get the bus from woodfarm to Wolvercote ,Barton to cultleslowe etc etc , before cornmarket &queen's Street became closed to buses.

Ahhh the number 10 bus. Outer Circle I think. We used to get on in Headington going back to Jericho. It was like a mystery tour after 6pm on a Saturday night. Is there anywhere it didn’t go?

OCC should be investing the congestion charge money into public transport, they should follow follow London's lead and introduce just a tap-on system where every bus journey is £2 regardless of distance (£1.75 in London) with hopper fares allowing you to change busses without extra charge up to an hour after your first tap. Invest in new routes and more frequent services and bus travel will be much more appealing.

The council don’t control the buses in Oxford, unlike in London or Manchester . I agree it would be great if one fare let you take a second bus within the hour. Every journey will be £2 though regardless of distance

No idea how much short journeys in Oxford are, but I thought it was a cap at £2, surely some journeys are less?

I only use the 600 from Westgate to the ground and back within the City if I go by bus instead of driving from Bicester

Distance isn't necessary a factor now. If you want to you travel the relatively short journey from Horspath to the JR you need to go into town first and then take a second bus. The £2 fare should be between two points irrespective of whether they are on the same bus route. And the one hour limit suggested above wouldn't necessarily work if you're coming in from Witney, Wantage or Watlington for example.

Yes the only way to reduce congestion in the city, on the ring road, on the A40, on the A34 is to provide cheap, reliable, public transport that doesn't stop at 7pm like many of the rural routes do. A family coming into Oxford from outside the city with the kids over the holiday will pay six or more times more to get the local bus from the local bus stop than they would driving to a P&R, down the A34, down the A40 etc. If the council's financial support was anywhere close to its rhetoric on the matter we might get somewhere. But as it clearly doesn't have the money it should put its political energies into lobbying government and shouting loudly to all and sundry about the lack of financial support rather than continually try to gaslight the community by pretending there is a cheap public transport alternative. Rant over.

Not sure what you’re saying, the £2 fare costs the government a fair bit so you can’t assume they should extend that. As noted above you can get a day pass for £5.

I'm pointing out that as the scheme is based on bus routes rather than specific journeys it only works for some people. For example, you can travel the 11 miles from Abingdon to the JR for £2 but the 4.3 miles from Horspath to the JR costs £4 because you have to get into town and change buses.

Perhaps we should have buses doing mystery routes. You get an idea of two places it MIGHT be going to.

You pay £2 and jump on and then you guess the best place to jump off. It’s a gamble but it kind of helps with the walking to work health side of things too.
