Current Player Thread Marselino Ferdinan

Apparently my barber cut his hair once.
 
As per my post on the Transfer Thread. The official EFL release/retain list shows that Marselino was due to be out of contract at the end of this month, but we had offered him a new contract at the time it was collated (16 May)
 
I suspect he will sign a new contract and be immediately loaned to a European third tier team or back in Indonesia
 
Absolutely world class recruiting from the team again to get such an exceptional talent tied down again .

I think this is tongue in cheek but if no do you honestly believe anyone on the football side of the club has anything to do with this? Romeny too.

I'm all for criticism but it has to be fair and I don't think you can blame anyone on the recruitment side for what is a vanity signing by the owner. It's not harmless either, him and Romeny will both be getting a wage that counts against us in terms of what we can spend

@BicesterU will now probably be along to castigate you for criticising the recruitment team .
They will then probably and completely unfounded, go on to imply you are the “type” of fan who, on match days, waits for the team coach to arrive so you can abuse the players AND that you probably sit by the dugouts to amplify your abuse of everything Oxford United .
Or was that just a one off especially for me !

It has no impact on us, there is clearly no obligation to play him, and he is unlikely to even be registered. So if Erick wants to pay him out of his own money to say he's an Oxford Utd player, and it goes some way to convincing him to continuing funding us, crack on I say.

Well.....I hear that there is pressure to play the Indonesians particularly when Erick is in town - take a look at Romeny's recent appearances correlated to when Erick is sat in the Director's box.

Marselino is fortunately short of the level required so he only gets on at Exeter (a) or Swansea (a) in what are/were treated as dead rubbers.

Not Returning to Persebaya Surabaya? John Herdman Reveals Marselino Ferdinan’s Contract Status at Oxford United​

Indonesia international midfielder Marselino Ferdinan is not expected to return to Persebaya Surabaya anytime soon after Indonesia coach John Herdman confirmed that the player remains under contract with Oxford United.

This means the 21 year old midfielder must continue to follow his club’s obligations and FIFA regulations, including any decisions regarding his availability for international tournaments.

There has recently been speculation among Persebaya supporters that Marselino could return to the club where he first made his name, particularly because his opportunities in Europe have been limited.

Why Can’t Marselino Return to Persebaya Yet?​

According to Herdman, Marselino is still contractually tied to Oxford United.

After Indonesia’s match against Mozambique on 9 June 2026, Herdman said:

“Marselino is still under contract with Oxford, so he must follow the club’s rules and the FIFA calendar.”

The statement was intended to address growing rumours on social media that Marselino could return to the Indonesian league.

As long as he remains an Oxford United player, decisions regarding his future and international commitments will be subject to the English club’s policies and FIFA regulations.

What This Means​

The key takeaway is that there is currently no indication that Marselino will be returning to Persebaya. Herdman’s comments suggest he remains contracted to Oxford United and any move would require agreement from the club.
