Current Player Thread Mark Harris

If we weren't going to part ways with him in the Championship, we won't do so in League One, plus, as you point out, why should we, he did well at League One level, it's where he belongs. I'd still like to see us find someone better mind you.

I think he’s accepted that, like a lot of the squad, he wasn’t quite up to the championship but has probably had assurances that he will be the main man again in league 1.

It’s probably why he signed a contract extension
 
I am glad he scored he does so much hard work for the team and hopefully he can gain loads of confidence from this and push on going forwards. Notice he did the shhh and hand symbol of people chatting. Unfortunately he has had alot of people on his back Including me at times. Let's hope he kicks on and scores a hatful this season. Come on sparky!
 
I thought he played well on Saturday. Few typical ‘Harris’ infuriating moments…but took his goal well, looked like a pest for the opposition defenders - and for the first time, seemed to improve when dropping in behind GOD. Nearly scored with a late deflected shot, set Brannagan up for a decent chance, and linked up nicely with all of the attacking players in forward areas.

I thought a goal and a decent performance were huge for him. And a timely reminder for us that at this level he’s a really good asset that other clubs in our league would be delighted to have if he was announced as a new signing for them.

Also - and I don't believe in jinxes - he tends to be pretty injury free. We'll need him fit between now and January. To be honest, no great shame that we're out of the League Cup.
 
The goal aside, I thought he was pretty poor. What else did he do? O'Donkor is a much better target man than Harris, MK were finally in a game once he came on and started to give them something to think about. There can be a place for Harris in this team, just not down the middle as the lone striker. I've said it previously that Harris' robustness and ability to be available game to game is a massive positive with him but we need more from him if we are to get anywhere meaningful by January.

Spot on. We definitely need a few more to (re)discover their scoring boots to spread the load a bit.

Good signs from GOD in pre-season, but need a few positive signs from a few others (and Greg Leigh given the opportunity to pop up at the far post)
 
Now I’ve knocked Harris not for his effort or bringing other players into the game, just for his lack of ability to score from decent positions
He did that Saturday and it seems to me that when he doesn’t have time to think he s better at putting away chances
Having said that he had half the length of the field to think before scoring at Leicester so what do I know

Also v Watford last season. As someone pointed out recently, he got very few chances last season so when he missed one it stood out. Having said that, he really isn't a deadly poacher.

His XG in the league last season was pretty much = to his actual goals. Indeed his XG for the last few seasons has been around the goals scored.
His shot conversion rate was approx 16%, which was within 3% of Will Lankshear.
 
I think Harris is absolute Marmite. Don’t like the stuff myself but love Twiglets. However I can’t find a version of Harris I like. For me he is the last person I want to see on the team sheet.
 
Besides scoring a goal, going clean through on goal and having it called back by outright refereeing incompetence, having one of our other best shots on goal and teeing Cam up for another chance, he really did very little against MK.

He’s a good player in this league, besides always representing the club well.
