Current Player Thread Mark Harris

I was being ironic Bazz
People seem to think 15 goals for Mark Harris was a good return in League 1
Iit’s the amount of chances he missed especially in tight games that bothers me
Marriot at Reading has scored 16 in 24 maybe he isn’t the answer but shows what a proven goalscorer can do
So someone who takes all his chance but only scores 8 would be better?

Or Harris should score 20+?

What are you actually saying you want?

All well and good having a good goalscorer, but they also need the service.look at the first goal yesterday.great cross from mills, how often did we beat a full back and put in a cross like that during the season?

Unless Bloomfield and Ed are planning some wacky change of style there's no point worrying too much about our #9 until we sort out our #10. It's been a chronic gap since Ruben was allowed to leave and we pulled out of signing a replacement.

Harris was actually very effective after the Bolton 5-0 when Des pushed him higher as a more simplistic penalty area #9 and his conversation numbers were good to excellent. We lost his pressing energy but had Ruben in a purple patch to compensate. Sticking a striker into the current team without a semblance of balance behind won't make much difference. Even a player of Lankshear's quality was often criticised here for looking like Harris MkII, there's a reason for that which is nothing to do with either player.

Idiotic post you know what I mean
Harris should have had around 20/25 goals that season he missed some absolute sitters, unbelievably bad misses

I don’t think this is remotely true
The criticism was that he was spending more time looking for fouls or wrangling with his defender. Pretty much every match-day thread in late 2025. Can't be arsed to trawl back through for evidence but the point is that even a *much* better player like Lanks spent swathes of this season playing two positions and feeding off scraps or low percentage crosses.

Mills has whipped in a lot of quality balls this season that Lankshear has scuffed. I love the player as much as the next fan, but he hasn't been that dry on service, at least not in the latter half of the season.

Harris has scored 1 goal every 6.25 games and Prelec 1 in 5 which suggests to me that neither of them can be relied upon to score consistently. Not that this makes them bad players as some suggest, there are plenty of strikers about that don't score lots of goals.

Honest answer is I have no idea about Prelec. Could turn out to be an absolute banger for us in L1 or could have us all scratching our heads as to why we signed him. He has been here for a full season and I feel he is the player I know least about in terms of what they bring or don't bring to the team.
Let's hope he's our next josh Murphy 🙏 and has 15 by Xmas

Will Goodwin says ‘hold my beer’

He has played 28 games for Colchester this season.
So hopefully he is fit enough for somebody to want him?

Be wages that are the problem, he is getting paid what someone who made a move upwards between league one clubs for a fee will be getting paid, yet his best season since then is 4 goals from 28 games in league 2, no one will match what we pay him. So its either loan him out again or pay up the difference in what a club are wiling to pay him.Loan is more likely though as with his injury record why would you take the risk of a longer term deal.

Feels like we bought him about 3 or 4 years ago - how long is his bloody contract!?

3 and a half years I am assuming, up there with Findlay and Hanson for value for money.

Findlay (22/23-Present)
League: 35 starts, 4 sub on
Cup: 4 starts, 1 sub on
44 total appearances

Hanson (18/19-21/22)
League: 35 starts, 26 sub on
Cup: 19 starts, 6 sub on
86 total appearances

Goodwin (Jan 2024-Present)
League: 1 start, 10 sub on
Cup: Nil
11 total appearances

Goodwin would have to play 34 times for us next season to get beyond Findlay's appearances for us.
Mental.

I amazed Findlay played that many times for us!

Was curious to see where Hanson ended up after leaving us and it appears he is still turning out for Northern Premier outfit Long Eaton United in Derbyshire.

Interesting(ish!) that his away kit sponsor happens to be a fellow Oxford fan. Very kind of Laurence to still be supporting Jamie a few years on!

Curious what the going rate for an away kit sponsorship in the Northern Premier League is!?!

A pint?

To be fair to him he has only been here 2 and a half seasons while the others have been/were here 4 (well sort of) so he has plenty of time to not catch up while on loan at Aldershot next season.

If you were Harris, after the season just passed would you be seeking a new club?

I applaud his efforts even coming on for so many brief cameos.

For me and for both parties its time he moved on

do either of them have a style? and if they do , do either of them know what it is?

Playing 2nd fiddle in the Championship isn't in any way indicative of struggling for minutes in the League One - a league he has already proven himself in.

His end of season Istagram post suggest to me that he expects to be here next season. Unless we go out there and sign a couple of big names on his position, I don't see why either party would want to part ways.
