You consider managing in League One an act of desperation? So no self-respecting manager should manage at this level? He's only been out of a job for 8 months, and has found himself a job where he'll back himself to turn a big club around and get them promoted back to the Championship. Doesn't sound very desperate to me.
 
Russell Martin's CV mostly talks about the number of passes his team makes, but apart from one promotion season with Southampton he has been deeply midtable. All his teams concede more than a goal a game, and excluding 1 promotion season he has a negative win-loss ratio.
I look forward to Leicester repeatedly conceding from goal kicks by having the defender pass to the keeper, and the keeper panicking after being closed down and giving the ball away.

I'd have said this was below him and shows how he isn't prepared to wait for a better position.
