General Manager Sack Watch

He would be crazy to leave Coventry but he would also be crazy to lose out on the nice pay off he would get once he's sacked ( from Chelsea)

I dunno - are they really going to be able to compete in the Premier League next season?
Obviously they could if they nailed the summer window like Sunderland did last year, but I'd have said the chances are higher than they go down with a whimper like all the promoted clubs did the season before. Burnley last season were a way better team than Coventry are this season, and they've not managed to make a dent in the Premier League.

He's probably got enough goodwill in the bank that Coventry wouldn't sack him even if they came straight back down, but if Frank has ambitions to get to the top of the game, then the Chelsea gig (again) would be the better opportunity.

6 year contract paid off after 6 months.....................£24 million for 6 months "work".

That`ll do very nicely.

Oh you have to sign an NDA and not take another job for 12 months.................... think he`ll struggle by! :ROFLMAO:

He’s not being paid off fully…

He took over Jan 6th, got sacked April 22nd, can now retire if he wants to, jobs a good un.

Chelsea add £24 million to the £1.5 billion debt that is never going to be paid off, so I suppose it doesn’t matter to them much either.

Don't see the point In this unless Burnley now rate themselves as a Brighton or Bournemouth

I mean, I presume when they hired him, his remit was to take the parachute payments, get them back into the Premier League and then keep them there.

He did the first part, but failed on the second half pretty hopelessly (whilst the two teams that went up with him look like they're going to stay there) so it doesn't seem the most unreasonable sacking to me.

And at least they gave him the full season, rather than the "thanks very much for getting us promoted but were firing you in mid-September at the first sign of struggle" that a lot of managers get.

They should have kept him to get back into the PL and then sack him next summer. He seems pretty good at getting into the PL but not successful at keeping his club there.

In the least shocking thing to ever happen, Watford sack Ed Still, who they only appointed in February, after 5 straight losses and only 2 points from their last 8 games. That’s 6 million managers they have had in two years or something now, doubt the bookies would have given you odds on him being there next season when he took over.

Must be the first time that two brothers have been sacked from two different clubs in the same division in the same season though with his brother getting the boot from Southampton earlier on.

Probably appoint his brother now and sack him after a few pre-season defeats.

Watford fans must be concerned that others will soon perceive them as a sacking club...(yes, I know the book is closed on that one).

Who on earth would go there....

The next guy, I suspect.

They'll make a sacking too far eventually. Law of averages suggests as much.

Alternatively, they may continue to do ok in the Championship and this is a reminder that the manager/first team coach is only one cog in the wheel.

Javi Gracia spell kept them up this season, shame for us he went back there.

The model there gives them access to good players, which seems to keep them safe, so maybe who the manager is doesn’t matter that much, but if they get off to a bad start you do wonder if they could get dragged down.

Next manager will not last any longer than any of the previous ones, but if you are an out of work football manager I suppose it’s a temp job while you wait for something else.

Watford are now just a Football Manager's pension contribution scheme.

It has got to be at the stage where a Manager has to worry they've done something wrong if they haven't been sacked by Watford.

But that is not their objective. The model is meant to keep them safe in the PL.

Well it’s not working then.

Suppose Brentford, Brighton and Bournemouth have shown a smaller well run club with a plan can do that, but it’s not that easy as another 50 clubs want to do the same thing and haven’t.

But Bournemouth had an open wallet to buy their way to the premiership and Nrentford got sponsorship through a betting company and it looks like Brighton have been well managed

Not certain Brentford having sponsorship from a betting company means they are not well run? Bournemouth are above far bigger clubs, have sold players for a lot of money and don’t spend anywhere near as much as some clubs in the prem. if you don’t think those two clubs are well run then not really sure who is?
