This thread is about ten Hag being sacked, he was the manager of Manchester United, there is no Oxford connection in this conversation. It is absolutely obvious that I am referring to Manchester United in this thread as opposed to Oxford United. It’s clear to me but obviously I can’t speak for others - you included.

I don’t see anyone else struggling with sticking with Man United though when talking about them. It has been highlighted in the past too but for whatever reason you continue to do it Baldy.

Correct, I’m not. Show me where I post about Manchester United, other than this thread. I have no interest in them whatsoever. I like the PL and enjoy watching a lot of the games, thats the extent of my PL interest.

No, I don't want us to be the only 'United', there are lots of 'Uniteds' in English football. And that is exactly the point. As we are on an Oxford forum it is much more relevant for 'United' to be Oxford United, and 'City' to be Oxford City, I wouldn't refer to us as 'United' on another teams forum, and rarely refer to us as 'United' at all.

A generational talent or just a kid having a few good games?

This lad looks to me to be emerging as one of the best 18 year old English players I've seen. Incredibly quick feet and close control in confined spaces and his calmness and composure to then pick the right pass is astonishing for someone so young and with so few games to his name. Bellingham, Rice and Mainoo - on this form - has to be the way forward for England.

Yes, I don’t get that argument either. There’s never been, and never will be, a match where one team has VAR and the other doesn’t. If there’s VAR it’s the same for both and if there isn’t VAR then it’s the same for both too.

It’s a difficult one because as annoying and frustrating as it is - like today. - it is arriving at the correct decision for offsides. I’d revert back to pre VAR but we are stuck with it, here to stay and it’s become an accepted part of the game.

Yes. City will be favourites of course but you can’t write off United in a one off game. United had a bit of fortune maybe but so did City - they were outplayed by Chelsea, who are worse than United in the PL. How Chelsea did not win that by 3 or 4 is down to some of the most wayward finishing you could wish to see. Madrid, while conceding possession, had City exactly where they wanted them in midweek too. This City side has cracks, no doubt about it.

I am playing devils advocate here but Coventry were giving it to United players too, they were both at it. Look at the keeper in Bruno’s ear, he gave some back too when he converted the penalty. Why shouldn’t Antony do that, just playing them at their own game. I couldn’t care less who won - think a Manchester derby will be a better final though - but one thing I detest is players, or even people socially, who dish it out but cry when they get it back. If you want a polite reaction, be respectful in the first place.

Funnily enough, I was at that game (relative is a season ticket holder) and, believe me, Chelsea got out of jail in a way that puts Unuteds escape yesterday in the shade!!! A fabulous game to be at but boy how did United lose, they were ridiculously dominant and better everywhere!

I think Bamford was obscuring the linesman's view, that was the pundits opinion anyway. In that case perhaps the linesman should have used Bamford as his reference point and he was a yard offside too, so they really should have got that one right.

Fair enough, although my interpretation of the phrase isn't purely making someone question their grip on reality, it is also making someone question their reasoning. If you think that the threshold for that hasn't been reached, then I respect that.

"Sacked" doesn`t really apply to football managers mid contract .... they get paid off so he trousers about £17m or so........... nice work if you can get it.

I suspect that PL Manager's contracts are pretty robustly written so that it is difficult to sack them in the traditional sense unless they commit something like gross misconduct.

However, it's not as if football is the only industry that pays off it's senior managers.

You're right, it is a very 'poor me, I'm being picked on' reaction but that's the world we are in. Disagreeing with a general opinion isn't very 2024, it's as simple as that. I'd be the first to admit that my views - across the board -might not be that of the masses but I genuinely wouldn't put forward a view if I didn't believe in it.

Sorry, but that doesn't give any credence to me supposedly being a Man Utd fan. I'm not. That Mainoo comment was when he burst on the scene, I think scored a late winner, and looked some player. Since then the odd game I've seen him he's underwhelmed a bit, hasn't quite carried it on and I don't think he had a particularly great Euros. Plenty of time though for him to develop though and fulfil that early promise. I'm massively complimentary towards Coventry in that thread and say that it's a goal in pretty much any other period in history, they were very unlucky but offside is offside - what else can you say?
