 Man City charged

Burnham was Mayor of Greater Manchester for 9 years 2017 - 2026.

This is his heartland, his power base.

It would be tremendously disappointing to see our PM choose regional politics over governing for the nation and fighting for the integrity of one of our few remaining cultural/economic powerhouses.

I’d expect the Mayor of Manchester to do it, but not the PM.

If my understanding of the PL/EFL rules are correct, if Man City have a massive points deduction and are relegated, the would just play in the Championship in 2007-28. If they are expelled from the PL, they would need to apply to the EFL for entry and, if accepted, that would require them to start in League 2. I don't believe that, under their own rules, there is a mechanism for the EFL to just insert City into the Championship.

The threat of expulsion vs relegation is one of the more influential cards the PL has.

Fair point, a good result for the premier league is talking down Man City from fighting this too hard but giving them a punishment that satisfies the rest of the premier league. Whether they can find that medium is the interesting question.

If the PM does get involved then I'm sure FIFA would take a very dim view of it. Not to mention the new Independent Football Regulator.

From the Man City forum
hear you my friend - it's an existential thrill of a rollercoaster ride at the moment.

While my mood may fluctuate to some degree, there is something consistent in all of this for me.
I simply see it as choosing to believe between:

  • Our Chairman, a man of incredible integrity if we are to believe everything we have ever seen of him to date, who comes from a culture where this/public shame is a critical personal value and who has now so muc himself riding on the positioin he has long taken on this.
  • Who also recognises that due process is not always an immediate or straightforward matter.
  • Who has come out and categorically denied any wrongdoing by City on these FFP charges
  • Who assures us that his/our approach is completely clean and above board and our evidence irrefutable, and that all will eventually be resolved to our satisfaction.
  • Who employed a man (Pep Guardiola) who it is clear, himself places massive value on integrity which you can see be the way he handles himself in public and with our players.
  • Whom Pep - no mug in terms of character judge - chose to trust implicitly and dedicate a decade of his career and indeed life towards supporting.
  • Who has built a football club that outperforms every other on virtually every count both on the pitch and off it.
  • Who led us through a similarly testing time and to ultimate victory vs UEFA by playing the long game in the correct way.

versus

  • A wildly out of control pitchfork brigade (and that's just the media) who all have vested interest in whipping up as much anti-City feeling on this matter as they can - partly due to the fact that they hitched their colours to that particular mast a long time ago.
  • A league institution who have been consistently inconsistent in the way different teams are treated. From us, to Everton, to Chelsea, to the red shirts.
  • Which has been shown to have shoddy process that resulted in the APT farce, rules which themselves were highlighted as being unlawful.
  • Which has been shown to be disingenuous in trying to direct narrative in their favour on the APT ruling, claiming victory when it was nothing of the sort.
  • Led by a man who was interviewed by two of the red cartel before being chosen (as were his predecessirs who insterestingly refused the job for unknown reasons).
  • Previously led by a man who stated that the Premier League have a plan to ensure different names appear on the PL trophy over a given period. who also stated that a poor united team is not good for the PL (or strong one is good for it).
  • A mysterious panel who have drawn conclusions that are both brutally bold on their condemnation, as well as seemingly not having reviewed critical evidence that may be highly material to the case.

In the absence of any solid evidence contrary to the above, as good or a badly as I feel about our chances at any given point, it is an easy choice for me on who to believe every single morning, and that's reassuring.

Pretty sure there was a stage where Man City were signing full backs for £50m a go. And when they didn't work out for whatever reason they just got another for £50m. For all the plaudits Guardiola got, it's pretty easy being a master tactician when you routinely spend money nobody else has (including yourselves).

I've seen some other rubbish theories their fans have leapt to, like the hostility towards them is because their 'owners are brown'.

I completely understand football clubs are a tribal thing but you can be proud of your team and still be able to question it. Some of their fans have definitely been drinking the Kool Aid.

The EFL will just make one up to fit the situation as it is "complicated"

It's why the PFA have gone after them for their new rules which we are currently under embargo for.
Governing anything is probably difficult.

But football governance across the board seems to be chaotic and make it up as you go along.

It seems with this Man City case the breakaway of the PL creates even more confusion.

What would happen if the EFL and national League simply said "no" to accepting man city?

The PL would withhold any monies that it distributes to both I would assume.

Politics is now a big part of this. I suspect the punishment will be lenient if and when it comes.

The City of Manchester may have benefited from the United Arab Emirates‘ cash, but the legitimacy of football in this country has not and is now in tatters.

Even the Guardian have now made the link.

The whistleblower:

The odd thing here, is he isnt in witness protection for City, its for the other leaks he has done. Luanda being the ones most likely to be dangerous as after that there was literally a bounty in his head.

Odd timing though.

Gutted that we might not get thousands of acres of shitty new build housing and a few roads linking us to Cambridge, Built on the back of crooked slave-trade Arab oil money.

What a crying shame.
What’s more annoying about this seems they’re trying to blackmail England over this. It now rests with Burnham if he can take the heat and stick his middle finger up at Abu Dhabi
