Ex-Staff Malcolm Elias

I had an hour's chat with Malcolm a couple of years ago after recognising him in the White Hart Dorchester. A real gent, an old school yet respectful storyteller! So many tales and loved Oxford United. RIP

He told me the other week that he still popped up to the training ground and loved doing it. Still has a soft spot for us. Lovely man.

I grew up with his son Daniel and his brother Andrew in Dorchester often round his house and getting upto mischief as you do when you are young. Such a Kind family and always welcoming many memories of those days. Rip Malcolm best wishes to the family. I remember playing footy down the recreation ground Malcolm ran courses in his spare time. Was always a gent will be missed.

He was my sports teacher at Peers School in the 80's. Very strict guy. Certainly had an interesting career.

I only met him twice about 30 years ago when I was half the age I am now. We were playing in a Sunday morning 5 a side tournament played at Peers School over a few weeks and on the penultimate week he was there and witnessed me scoring an absolute belter with my wrong foot from inside our own half.

Not only did he congratulate me after the game but the following week he did the presentations where we had finished runners up and he singled me out for what he said must have been the goal of the tournament.

I had never been much of a player but I could shoot and I remember those moments with him as though they happened yesterday.

So from my personal experience a lovely man and I am very sad to hear this news today.

RIP Malcolm

Was my sports teacher at peers very competitive and fancied himself very bitter when I used to beat him at badminton along with his side kick Mr Evans loved Wales and eye for ladies I believe. Rip.

Very sad news about an absolutely giant figure in the history of Oxford United Football Club and the game more generally.

An excellent recent podcast with him here for those who haven’t listened before:

Great listen.

Love the old school stories, makes it feel real.

Was my PE teacher at Peers and whilst he was always strict I felt he was always fair, I was on the receiving end of his wrath often for not putting in the effort that he clearly felt I was capable of. Post school when he worked at OUFC he got me and my brother tickets for the 7-4 Luton away game during the barmy Luton away fans ban. Always had time for a chat when bumping into him before games at the Manor. Only downside he was a Swansea fan.

Sorry to hear this news. I have recollections of him marshalling what seemed like hundreds of kids on the pitch before games - I can hear his voice over the PA now. Another connection with The Manor gone 😥. RIP Malcolm.
