So the Global Average: A penalty is awarded about every 271 minutes of play across various leagues. Double this since there are two teams involved and it becomes 542 minutes.

So if we are attacking for 10 minutes (or 1/9th) of a game, as your post implies, we can multiply this (542) figure by 9 giving us 4,878 minutes, which we then divide down from minutes into 54.2 matches.

In summary: we should have had a penalty by now.
Those maths just don't add up. Why would you double the 271 minutes of play?

Its not rocket science, if you defend for 80 mins every game your at the wrong end of the pitch to win a penalty
Suggest that you listen to the Dub.
George Elek gives stats that show that we attack more than some other clubs in the league , have more touches in the box etc. Yet these teams do get penalties.
We are due one ( stating the bleeding obvious). I expect that it will be like buses and we will then get 2 to 3 in a row.

That would be nice.
I always hoped this season would be different in the way we accumulated points and that 5 or 6 points might somehow be the result of winning penalties and scoring from them. So far there is no sign of one coming. Maybe we have to be noisier as a crowd to win one. The delayed reaction you get from a referee besieged by a crowd baying for blood compared to a passive audience might point to the problem rather than pointing to the spot.

If that is true then it’s mental, I get it if we were playing in the prem against Arsenal, Man U, Liverpool etc but who is swayed by the glamour of Hull, Millwall and Preston etc?

These teams might be bigger than us but it’s not like we are playing Real Madrid.
They're more "championshippy" than us that's what it is

As a grassroots referee who officiates 100-130 games a season, I average a penalty per game.

That’s because I enforce every law of the game to the best of my ability, so defenders holding an attacker in the box at a corner, where it impedes the striker going for the ball always results in my whistle.

You must get sworn at a lot?

100% definitely a pen

72 and counting..

That's a definite penalty against Blackburn, if that was an Oxford player, it would have been given.
We may not get in the box too much, but we've had at least half a dozen incidents where we could (should!) have got a penalty.

I'm surprised that the mainstream media hasn't covered it, but hopefully once t hey do, the Refs will become aware of it and we'll get a glut of penalties!

Whilst for me it is a penalty and said so at the time; my only query on why wasn't it given is the positioning of the officials and whether they could see it. I don't remember any replays giving a clear view of where they were or if they could see it.

Referee can be seen behind the player so would have absolutely no view of it.
Assistant is on this side (can be seen overseeing the corner afterwards) but no indication of his position for the free kick or how clear his view of it was through other players - he'd also have to be pretty certain to flag it to the ref.

Currie's reaction and arm movement afterwards make it look deliberate, even if it wasn't

Just noticed the quoted post has taken me to 1500 posts.
I feel better already, moving up from Callum O'Dowda to penalty king, Andy Crosby.
It's a sign, I tell ya!

It’s the blocking off I don’t like in the professional game but if you select your target as a ref you won’t go too far wrong. I bet you don’t actually get too many complaints either. It’s always the same old suspects doing the holding and it will mostly be against the most able of the attacking team.

No way would that be given today.

Congratulations on the tier elevation. Not sure where the list is with the various steps, but I think you may have Yemi Odubade as your next target.

Thank you.
Next tier is Dave Langan apparently, a target worth aiming for.
Only scored 3 goals for us, but 2 of them very significant!

To make our user ladder a litter bit more OUFC orientated we have linked player appearances to user message count, this also means that @Sarge who is our most regular poster has something new to aim for (he had previously maxed out).

1 point = 1 message posted.

The levels are below.

This actually triggered a little update, the problem with using a current player I guess, Cameron Brannagan has now moved up 3 places! I imagine he will surpass the late, great Mad Dog before too long.
