One for the stattos out there. What’s the longest time a club has been without a manager? Is this a record we could break?

David Pleat was caretaker of Spuds from September 21 2003 to June 3 2004: eight months and two weeks.
Wiki admittedly so may not be the record.

Chelsea have had loads of caretaker managers for huge parts of the season. Benitez/grant/hiddink

True but they were all established managers in their own right, not someone who’s spent their entire career no higher than as assistant.

Can anyone tell us if there has ever been a scenario where a sacked manager has been back in a job before a replacement was found for him?

Wasn't Carvalhal appointed pretty sharpish at Swansea after being booted at Sheff Wed?

For a more recent example: Fulham sacked Kit Symons on 8 November 2015 - despite promising a swift appointment and talking up the amount of interest from big names, took until 27 December for them to appoint Slavisa Jokanovic after several almost appointments and a lot of concern at owners generally not having a clue what they were doing. Maybe they did, or maybe they got lucky - either way, now widely viewed as a masterful appointment.

We have a history of not being rapid with our appointments:

Caretaker manager runs at OUFC:
6 November 1958 - 1 January 1959 - Committee
25 October 1999 - 2 February 2000 - Mickey Lewis
26 January 2014 - 22 March 2014 - Mickey Lewis
22 January 2018 - present - Derek Fazackerly
