This letter is written with those in mind who seek communication. It is not an opportunity to attack the owner or staff of OUFC.
(I ask the mods to filter, and exclude anything which might be construed as attacking)
Dear Mr. Eales,
This letter has been contributed to by those who are concerned at the Oxford United's significant under performance this season. It is not a subjective or ill considered approach.
We understand that the complexities of running a football club, with such a complicated background, is a task which many of us do not fully and easily comprehend. We do, however, understand, respect and appreciate that a good deal of the 'behind the scenes' detail, is not something which can be communicated without careful consideration and timing.
We also understand that we are not entitled to be informed of the nuances of negotiations and decisions which you, as owner, are engaged in and have the right to act on and sanction.
We appreciate that any chairman who takes on the mantle, Is likely to be subjected to criticism, vitriol, and uninformed accusations.
What we don't understand is your silence. The problem with which, is a void in understanding and the creation of a vacuum which, is then filled with phantasy, assumption and conjecture by the fans.
Organisations that thrive, tend to be greatly assisted by communication from those who hold positions of authority and significance. Since the beginning of the season, we note that this has changed dramatically and it is a considerable concern.
Your public support of Michael Appleton was exemplary. Your silence where Pep Clotet is concerned is baffling.
As someone who has consulted widely to organizations, I see things which I find alarming. Under performance in any organization points towards systemic problems within it, and can be regarded as 'symptomatic', excuse me if I am telling you something you already know.
What you will also know is that from a commercial perspective, unsatisfied customers tend to become disenchanted. The idea that football is in some way different due to blind allegiance and the 'true fan' phenomena, is an illusion.
We sincerely hope that you will talk to us soon. Many of us will wish for reassurance. Some, a panacea which will placate their concerns. Others will seek definitive reassurances. And, for most of us, hope for a response that reflects the respect which this letter is sent.
Please, talk to us.
