I don’t want this week to end. It’s been a joy to dip into this thread over the weekend. Followed up with much reading of the players’ threads. Just a taste of the manager’s thread and the odd glance at the Leicester fans’ site.

If we repeat that performance against Burton I may explode!

It was one of the great days out and we were set up perfectly to exploit Leicester's weaknesses - the selection was spot on and the players stepped up. However, I would be surprised if we play another team all season who were as open, naive and poorly coached as they were.

Yes the next few games will tell us if that was just us coming across a terrible team and getting a bit of luck, or if we’re the real deal. So far we’ve looked promising in every game though, and so if we can keep on improving and keep confidence high then I don’t see why not. We just need a little bit of luck with injuries.

Agree that they were naive and awful defensively
But by all accounts they were decent in beating Plymouth mid week ( a decent team).
Burton and Cambridge will presumably try and be far harder to beat, so a totally different challenge, but we are scoring lots of goals, have a better bench and seem.to have more options, so no reason to think that we can't continue to do well ( we do need to avoid injuries to key players though)

I think the Burton game will be interesting to see where we are and perhaps where we will be. A home game against a side I see as a pretty standard league one team, so similar to what we will play a fair few times over the season and as its at home the type of fixture we will need to take a good amount of points from to have a successful season. Always hard to gage anything from one game as off days happen, but if we win and look better than them then I think we can perhaps start to be a bit hopeful after what has been a hard summer, because Burton are probably a decent yardstick for the majority of games we will play at this level.

I didn't have the pleasure of going on Saturday but from watching the extended highlights, this appears to be spot on. Leicester had a ridiculously high line and their left back (McFarlane) was hopelessly out of position for the first. Perhaps he was worried about Kioso getting the return from McDonnell, but that was never his space to close and he was toast as soon as he stepped up. He also doesn't cover himself in glory for the second, although the whole thing is a mess defensively. It gives the impression of an arrogant approach from Martin, where they need to control possession, get up the pitch and the rest takes care of itself.

On the contrary, it is very refreshing to watch an Oxford side so determined to get forward and score goals. Each of our goals is the result of direct and purposeful football. For the first it is noticeable how Harris is sprinting to get off the back of Souttar the moment the ball has gone behind their defence, and likewise for the fourth you see GO'D chucking himself at the cross. Although he didn't quite get there, it's pleasing seeing someone arriving at the back post for a tap in. I thought it was a lovely ball by Lynch, but really it's a very obvious cross to hit (like Missanga for the first) when you know attacking players are going to throw themselves to get on the end of it.

You would expect Saturday to pose a very different task and to be more about breaking down a side that won't have such a lackadaisical approach to defending.

I too am having a browse to continue the enjoyment. Came across this gem on the HYS page on BBC.

Listened on the radio, and watched various highlights.

Utmost respect to Ramsey for coming into off-field carnage at the club, and getting us playing beautiful free-flowing football.

With the the embargo he has clearly had to evaluate our options, and work with youth, and get what he can out them.

Our passing play for the goals was truly breathtaking.

If we'd have got a similar type of manager in like Rowett, they'd be playing 5 at the back, and try and nick a goal in the last ten minutes.

This result will give us all a lot of happiness and hope, for along time!

And our fans were just brilliant.

Well said.

Great post as usual.

I would say that it was incredibly frustrating seeing our attackers be in poor positions when it came to attacking space and having balls come into the box for them. How many times over the last two seasons did we question why nobody could be in the right place to connect to the end of a good ball in?

We won on Saturday because Leicester played football the same as we do now, not like MK. Dons big sky high boot down the middle by 6 foot thugs kicking us off the park. We never play well against those sort of teams which we will come up against quite a few in this league.

Think that's right. Breaking down teams that want to stop us playing, with a thin squad, will be a challenge. But that's for the future. For now, life is golden.

Not quite that cut and dry though is it - we drew with MK and played pretty well to win 2-1 at Stevenage. Hudderfield was the biggest struggle so far and they couldn't be accused of being a long ball team, they played some nice football through the middle and flanks.

Apologies if someone else has posted this. The size of MApp’s arms. What a unit 😍😍😍

EDIT - doesn’t sound like he’s expecting his next job to be at L1 level though! Didn’t seem to really understand what was going on in the league at all. Still love him 💪💪💪
