I see league 1 split into 3 unequal parts.

The top 6 will be the relegated teams from the Championship and those teams that have splashed the cash. I don't see a Shrewsbury type surprise in the top 6 this season.

The middle 12 teams are much of a muchness, similar in quality and strength in depth, having said that I think Southend will do well under Chris Powell, and perhaps surprisingly after last season Charlton and Scunthorpe to struggle.

The bottom 6 is perhaps fairly predictable apart from Gillingham who finished terribly last season and I can see that continuing this season. My guess is that Accrington and Rochdale will both just avoid the drop.

Here goes mine put a bit of thought into this

Fleetwood for promotion at 10/1 might be worth considering??

Was thinking Fleetwood could go up, but equally could down. Made some very good signings, but Barton is an unknown.

Peterborough and Plymouth the best outside bets, I’d imagine. You wont get much of a return on Sunderland (10/11) - or my bet for the title: Barnsley.

Top two -

Sunderland
Barnsley

Play offs -

Peterborough
Luton
Portsmouth (play off winners)
Burton

Bottom four -

Wycombe
AFC Wimbledon
Rochdale
Accrington

OUFC 10th.

Still banging on about a pre season friendly. Christ.

Anyway that's positively optimistic for you. Hope you're feeling alright!

Brave predicting Scunny for 8th. They've lost most of their best players and don't have many at all. Currently, even using some youth players they are unlikely to fill the bench as it stands on Saturday.

Scunny's Bazzer must be beside himself on their forum.

Probably more ignorant than brave. Put it together in about 5 minutes. Having listened to the podcast, and hearing how the squads are actually shaping up, I'd probably swap Scunthorpe and Fleetwood, move Portsmouth up slightly and Wimbledon down into relegation.

Under Jim Smith we had one very poor pre season and went up.
Do you seriously think pre season games matter enough to bring up when commenting on the next season.
When apparently they had a training session in the morning and were playing fatigued?
Far more relevant I would think is which players we get in during the next week and how well Mackie Browne etc work out when match fit.

No strong feelings of positions but I will Be betting Burton at 28-1 ew for the title
Pretty Much the same squad which took it to the last day of the season. They’re vastly underrated by the bookies

Odds are set by money being laid as much as real chance, which is why Oxford and Portsmouth are often shorter odds because of their fan base. Burton are better than 28-1 but think they're in a group who could finish anywhere in the top half.

My four penn’orth FWIW.

Can’t reasonably see why Sunderland won’t go the way of Wigan and Sheff Utd of recent years, although their manager is new and unproven in England.

Expect challenges from Pompey and Luton.

Can’t understand the love-in for Plymuff.

Coventry, Charlton, Bradford unknowns.

Relegation for AFCW, Rochdale, Gillingham and WhyCome?

Seriously expecting a top 4 challenge from United.

Not one for predicting our league, and this season looks harder to predict because so many teams look evenly matched. Plus I can have a good
Laugh come May at how badly I did.

1) Barnsley
2) Portsmouth
———————-
3) Burton Albion
4) Sunderland
5) Southend Utd
6) Peterborough Utd

OUFC 8th

21) Bristol Rovers
22) Gillingham
23) Walsall
24) Wycombe Wanderers

Barnsley looked pretty good today and I think the prediction of 15th is valid if we don't add more depth...sigh not a great start.

Halfway through the season, so perhaps worth a look back at the pre-season predictions.

This is how the table currently stands.

1. Portsmouth.
2. Luton.
3. Sunderland.
4. Charlton.
5. Peterborough.
6. Barnsley.
7. Doncaster.
8. Blackpool.
9. Wycombe.
10. Accrington.
11. Walsall.
12. Fleetwood.
13. Southend.
14. Coventry.
15. Shrewsbury.
16. Burton.
17. Rochdale.
18. Oxford.
19. Gillingham.
20. Bradford.
21. Scunthorpe.
22. B.Rovers.
23. Plymouth.
24. Wimbledon.

Not too many surprises in the top 6, apart from perhaps Charlton who are on a good run of form.

Wycombe, Accrington and Walsall all punching above their weight, Accrington in particular is an amazing effort.

Most people expected Burton to be challenging at the top but are down in 16th, which is a surprise.

Plymouth, Bradford and ourselves are all underperforming, however we like Bradford have found some form and are currently going in the right direction.

I’m not particularly surprised to see Gillingham, Scunthorpe & Rovers struggling.

After a 0-3 home defeat to Accrington, Argyle’s manager Derek Adams will be under a lot of pressure.
