Uefa, European football's governing body, has stressed its "clear opposition" to the plans, but "reluctantly" approved them because there is no legal framework to stop it.

US sports seem to have done this regularly.

I do wonder if there will eventually be a breakaway of the 'bigger' clubs who will do this kind of money making venture.

But they will want their cake and eat it ( have a team in domestic football as well).

That is the issue, it goes away from being a sport you attend, to one you "consume". In lots of the world it is the way they are already.

I don’t disagree with you, browse any social media and most foreign fans views of clubs who are not the big six and you realise the feeling is mutual, they don’t care how Brighton, Brentford and Bournemouth do so care even less about our future.

Exactly this. Only have to look at how the big clubs manage their ticketing these days. They aren’t interested in the normal fan. They want the corporates and tourists.
Clubs are selling their souls and don’t give two shits about the ‘normal’ fan.
They will lose the atmosphere but that won’t matter on the TV as they will just use crowd noise like they did during Covid. Real Madrid have being putting microphones within their stadium to make the crowd sound louder on tv than it actually is for years.

Depends on what tv deal what’s left in England gets I suppose, a bad one where not much money filters down and the best you can hope for is watching AFC Oxford United, but hopefully Sky (or someone) see the value in domestic football.

It will be hard hitting for all clubs, especially those who over spend but it will level out. I said a few years ago that it is only a matter of time before the whole of football finances goes pop and then it will be a strain on all clubs.
It would be like when the ITV deal went bust and clubs struggled but they managed to recover.

If the Sky money goes the whole of English/Scottish football will be in the crap. They have invested a lot more into British football than ITV Digital ever did. I said on this forum a few weeks back that football in England was in danger of going bankrupt, referring to the ridiculous sums clubs at our level were spending just to keep up. If the Sky pot disappears almost all clubs in the Championship and PL will be buggered (including us) as well as many below us. However much we may hate Sky (and I'm among those that does) there's no denying that the money they've been pumping into the game is relied upon by the majority of clubs to keep them above water

I understand this, but I have to disagree.

For a few reasons.

First off - who are the 'Big Six'? Isn't this fluid? Liverpool, Manchester United - massive clubs at any time. Chelsea, Manchester City? Questionable. I assume this omits, for example, Leeds? Massive club but probably not included. I don't care who is or who isn't, but it's not like the situation north of the border where there is a natural and massive discrepancy so it doesn't feel inevitable.

Secondly, and linked to the above, what's to stop it happening again in twenty years even if you do allow it now? You siphon off the so-called big ones - Chelsea Cheetahs enjoy massive success vs Barcelona Buccaneers and the Thai population love it, but meanwhile the real passion is still found at Sunderland v Middlesbrough and so some other charlatan 'entrepreneur' comes up with a new dream and siphons these off? Rinse and repeat.

Thirdly, and most importantly (you touched on it, to be fair) we can all look at these 'Big Six' clubs as vehicles for foreign support or 'ballers league' cretins in the UK - but they all have proper supporters like us, too. They don't deserve this.

The problems and excesses in the football industry are not remedied by cutting loose those currently most infected - we need to deal with the issues at source. Even if that's the economic crash of the English football 'market' by some sort of government intervention that leads to 'investors' f*cking off to a 3rd rate Spanish club instead.

Which brings me to your last point (where we clearly agree) - let it go tits up. I would love nothing more than the foreign investment to run for the hills (or La Liga - where they have a mere fraction of our football culture) and be left with slightly fewer imports and slightly less wealthy players - but a Football League perfectly intact...

Whilst it's hard to disagree that the whole of football is dependent on the money from TV deals, I think it's hugely unlikely that this money is about to disappear.
Let's not forget that Richard Masters told Sky years ago that at the expiry of the current deal, the EPL was setting up 'Premier League Productions' to sell direct to the consumer, effectively ending Sky's coverage of the Premier League.
This is what surely led to the last Sky EFL deal being so much bigger and better than before, Sky are doubling down on the EFL. It's going to be all they've got.
