A bit harsh perhaps but I understand where you are coming from. It is frustrating to get these better players in and then integrate them into our team and then just as they start getting minutes they get injured.

Perhaps this division is a bit more physical and it is not a case of refs protecting players either as was shown when the Luton lad landed one on Dembele inside a minute of coming onto the pitch. Sometimes players just cop one. Phillips did as did Brannagan.
 
I actually wonder if we were really intending to include Edwards in our squad?

I suspect that when the window closed, our intent was to have Joe Bennett as one of the 25. Then we found out about the extent of his injury, realized there was no point registering him - and then signing and registering Edwards that week was an opportunistic response to that. By that point, we could only sign free agents and he was already in the building and doing OK in training.

Unless he gets back to fitness and plays multiple games in a row in the next two months, I can't see us extending him beyond January. We'll need his squad spot for Bennett, Currie and the exciting new signings we're all looking forward to.

Oh sure. Of course that will be in Des and the clubs thoughts, I am sure.
He is human though ( and a cracking player), so the club clearly aren't simply writing him off, and neither should they in my view ( I guess only a minority of fans have totally given up on him and assume that he will be injured immediately)
 
I remember there used to be a cascade of equally unfunny remarks about Josh Murphy. They didn’t go unnoticed by the player

Who knows what role they may have played a role in his decision to go elsewhere

So we should never say a player is injured even if he is because he might go and play elsewhere? Bizarre way to live your life but if that makes you happy you do that, I will stick to making unfunny jokes that at least partly grounded in reality though.
 
I’m never a fan of people making jokes about an injured player.

For footballers, they have a short career and will feel worse than anyone for being stuck on the sidelines, let alone reading ‘jokes’ made about them and their injury prone body.

Would you like people to mock you for being ill and taking extended absence from work?

You really would hope that before we do anything at all with Edwards (play him, sign him up, let him go) he will have had a really (and I mean *really*) thorough medical assessment. There is no point playing him even as a sub if he isn't fully better (for his sake or ours) and unless that assessment has shown that there is no underlying problem that means another injury is probable (his hamstring injuries seem to be recurring) then there is little point in signing him up for the rest of the season. I still think the 'if we can get him fit he will be one of the best in the league' narrative so beloved of Karl Robinson is one of the worst reasons to sign a player!

The remarks about Murphy were largely around his strange unexplained disappearances, often with no explanation as whether he was even injured or not.

There were also rumours of him simply not wanting to play at times, and then plenty of occasions when he did play, when he looked totally uninterested.

It was understandable that the fans were gonna be all over that, and it was up to the player to change the fans perception of him, which he did, admirably.

He then left for more money, and so his girlfriend could move back nearer to home, nothing to do with us fans, who by then worshipped him, and shared a great relationship with him.

Edwards will know himself, that his injury record whilst with us has been appalling, and he won't be surprised by any of the doubts or remarks from fans regarding his fitness and reliability.

It's up to him to prove his fitness, and stay fit, if he wants to secure a new contract with us. If he does that, I've no doubt he'll then go on to be a fan's favourite.
 
I think the jokes deflect the serious nature of this.
Survival will depend on keeping good players on the pitch. Edward’s is top drawer, but his injuries are killing us.

His current injury is nothing to do with his hamstring though

I get it all the time!

When my dodgy left hip, right knee, and knackered foot are all playing up at the same time, I've been told many times that I walk like I've shat myself!

And you know what, I agree, I do walk like I've shat myself sometimes, when all those injuries flare up all at once, but I find it funny, and I have a bloody good laugh at myself with them, even though these injuries are a real blight on my life, I can still have a laugh about it.

Not everyone is a snowflake, who can't handle a bit of banter and p**s taking you know, most have their heads screwed on enough to see the humour in things, no matter what it is.
 
December is a huge month for our club. The points we get in the next few weeks could be the difference between surviving or going straight back down to league one.

I don't care about what has come before, that's already gone. And January 31st is a long way off, so long term transfer talk is irrelevant. Now I want to see the best team possible playing tomorrow (weather permitting) to try to get our first away win. I want the same midweek when we go for back to back wins at QPR. Next weekend against Sheff Wed and beyond.

Kyle Edwards can be the player that gets us these points and if he only comes good for one month then December is the very best one to do it for!

I know - that doesn't mean I wouldn't want to know that not only had this current injury cleared up but also that his hamstring(s) injuries were just bad luck as opposed to something likely to recur. We really do need all possible resources to survive this season and having players *likely* to be spending time in the treatment room seems sub-optimal.

I agree with you to an extent, but imagine spending your whole life developing into a professional footballer only for that to be taken away from you with persistent injuries and then having it joked about.

I’m usually anti snowflake but football injuries can be career ending and I don’t find it to be a joking matter in all honesty
