Wonder if Gary Rambo Briggs will turn up, and reacquaint himself with KK?- the last time they met Rambo had him in his pocket all game, until KK ( who had been pecking referee Thomas the Book's head for the entire game) managed to get Brigsy sent off, -after which, KK scored, what was a consolation, goal against The Mighty U's

I only saw KK play once at the Manor for Newcastle.

He did score for Liverpool at the Manor in an FA Cup clash in January 1972:

I think his next visit to Oxford wasn't much better was it, a 4-2 defeat in the early 90s when he was manager.

Indeed. There are certain people in football who are loved by fans from virtually all clubs and I’d say Keegan is one of those.

Can you imagine a top-level international footballer ever being allowed to compete in something like that now? Even if they were permitted to compete, Brian Jacks even now would probably wipe the floor with them.

What might have been! We bought Cassidy in November 1970 after the Oxford scout recommended signing Keegan instead. At the time there was interest in Keegan from Preston, Birmingham, Notts County, Millwall and Arsenal and we were really looking for a forward, not a midfielder. Apparently his wages were so low at Scunthorpe he was forced to take payed employment during the summer of 1971 before Liverpool snapped him up for £33,000 and £50 a week.

United bolstered their forward line in September 1972 by signing the great Hughie Curran for £50,000. Had we signed Keegan, we could have lined up in 72-73 with a team like this: Burton Lucas Shuker Roberts Clarke, C. Evanson Sloan Skeen Cassidy Curran Keegan sub Clarke, D. Plenty of goals in that team. Without Keegan we finished 8th in the Second Division, our highest position to date.

Someone said it on the forum well - the sort of player that transcended fan bases. Everyone respected his ability and loved him as a human being. A sad loss. RIP Kev.

Ah no, such a shame. One of my earliest footballing heroes. Was a pleasure seeing him play at The Manor (and Briggsy keeping him very quiet until leaving one too many tackles in on him).
