Apart from by his fan club on here has he been linked with Stockport anywhere else? Because if I was a Stockport fan and we were going for a manager who was just fired from a club in the division below and his previous job in this division he was fired before he could relegate that club, while having a mid life crisis of his own making, I wouldn’t be impressed.

Saying that I support a club who appointed a man who got a club relegated then got fired from that club in the division below so what do I know, maybe it’s very en vogue at the moment.

Apart from the bits about him being a very good manager, a nice guy and wishing him the best I agree with every word of this.

He is actually a really nice guy if you meet him, your typical scouser but a nice guy all the same.
He has his limitations when it comes to management and I imagine he will bob around league 1 and 2 for the next few leagues.

I'm fairly sure we're widely expected to disappesr without trace.

Kind soul, wants to be liked, acts confident but has his insecurities, has the gift of the gab but often trips over his own words, but he clearly genuinely cared for our club, desperately wanted to succeed with us, and also did a lot during lockdown to reach out to people.

We played some fantastic football under him, broke our record for most games unbeaten, and scored a heck of a lot of goals. We even hold the records for most shots (on target?) ever against a Pep Guardiola side under his management. Ultimately the wheels fell off because of issues in his personal life. Anyone who has been through a tough time knows how easy it is to spiral, even if it is of your own making.

At times he was a clown, but I came to think of him as our clown. Wish him the best, and sure he'll find a club soon enough.


EDIT - I think in a few years time when we have a Kassam version of the current "Greatest Games at The Manor" thread, there will be quite a fair few contenders from his reign.

I didn't much like him (some of those interviews were so embarrassing, I couldn't bear to watch), but I definitely enjoyed a lot of the football in those peak seasons under him.

In the 54 years since I have watched Oxford the most exciting football I’ve seen has been under Jim Smith, Denis Smith and Robinson, he has his faults but for the most part it was good to watch. And I think he genuinely loves the club, it was time to go when he went but I won’t be jumping on the bandwagon of slagging him off like some seam to always do.
