Ex-Staff Karl Robinson

Karl Robinson on the bench for Swindon Town in 1998

I detest Swindon, but I wouldn’t wish that s**t on them.

He is a solid League One/Two manager, it's not really a surprise.

He’d never managed at League 2 level until he joined Salford. Agree on him being competent at that level. As frustrating as he can be on a personal level and as for his prolonged and much needed exit, he gave us some fun times.

January transfer window is upon us. He’ll be giving his usual ‘showing me workings’ spiel to the media and the three Salford fans before long.

It’s funny isn’t it, he got us really close to promotion twice in Covid times. I think we would all have a different opinion of Karl, if only we could have beaten Wycombe…

I think he'd be generally well regarded if he'd walked that final summer when his heart clearly wasn't it in any more. We'd view him as a nearly man, but a manager who produced some good teams and some excellent football.

Instead he mailed it in and almost got us relegated, and I think that's the source of the majority of the anti-Karl sentiment......

Has a manager ever triggered a section of the fan base so much like KR did and still does?

You tell us, Steve. Has anyone triggered you as much as KR?

Is there any other OUFC manager that you were still wishing to comment on, some 22+ months after they’d left?

Absolutely this. He was a good manager for us, though clearly had defects (hence why he was in League 1).

He knew how to put an attacking side together, and loved a goal. Just couldn’t adjust tactically.

He just completely lost the plot and phoned it in for the last year, almost begging to be sacked and paid off, it was an extraordinary situation., he needed a break as much as we did.

As you said, he was often found out tactically. I would also say we did have a very good squad in that 2019-2020 season; probably slightly better than the one we went up with last season.

lol he was strutting around again today and chit chatting with Pep almost as if he hadn’t just lost 8-0 to a bunch of kids.
