General Kabongo Tshimanga

I know absolutely nothing about the guy, because I don't watch City or Non-League any more.....

......but I'll just note that he's 24 years old, has never really been given a chance in the Football League but is scoring goals for fun in the conference.
In 2014-15, there was another 24 year old scoring goals in the conference for fun, who'd never really had a chance in the Football League - and that was Matty Taylor.
And in 2011-12, there was yet another 24 year old who fit exactly the same description......turns out Jamie Vardy could hack it at a much higher level!

If he keeps up even close to a rate of a goal a game, someone is going to give him a shot in the league. So I'm sure we'll eventually get to find out if he's a late bloomer or a League One donkey......

As you say, real shame we didn’t Persue Shayne lavery
Kofi Balmer, Trai Hume are 2 north of the border we should seriously be watching.
A year or two to late for Stephen Fallon, Jamie Mcgonigle Caolan Marron Rhys Marshall and Michael O’Connor or we would maybe be in the same position as Joel Cooper
Linfields Cammy Palmer, Cormac Austin and John McGovern at Newry are worth keeping a eye on.
Lee Bonis is not in Laverys league but is doing pretty well at portadown.
Down south
Sligo have Jonny Kenny good young forward, and the likes off John Mahon, Lewis Banks and Niall Morahan.
Bohemians have Dawson Devoy, Andy Lyons, Tyreke Wilson and Ross Tierney but hes off to somewhere like Motherwell in January.
Eion Toal at Derry younger version of Elliott Moore.
Danny Mandroiu at Shamrock who scored for Brighton against us a couple of years back.
Also Neil Farrugia is coming back from a long term hamstring problem,
Looks like Jack Byrne is going back after signing for McCarthy in Cyprus.
But Brian Maher at Bray maybe one to keep a eye on

Forgot to mention Paul O’Neill who’s struggled to get games at cliftonville this season, but had a decent game for Northern Ireland u21s mid week

17 goals in 17 starts in the National League is extremely good. The guy does score goals. I'd love to see him have his chance here.

Sounds like the shop has sailed though.
I notice you're footnote says 'give Agyei a chance'- neither of these players will be here next season - one is a good conference (possibly L2) striker, the other is sadly an enigma that I've now lost faith in

If this is the case, which is probably is, and with winnall looking like yesterday's man, then we do need a striker in January.

I like Whyte but hes not a centre forward (imo)

I said yesterday he’s well worth a punt.

He’s a good age, and in superb form! I think he could be a real success here. He would get lots of service, and he clearly has an eye for goal.

We need a striker, and he would be good back up to Taylor.

On the flip side there isn’t any guarantee, he could be an Omar Bogle. Great at that level but useless higher up.

Me personally I think he’s worth a go. Ship Agyei out on loan, and bring Tshimanga in.

Tshimanga would probably cost at least £200k, maybe more. It's unlikely. If he stays he might be worth a promotion to Chesterfield.

And he would cost a considerable amount as Chesterfield are rumoured to have paid over £200k for him and with their stated aim of going for promotion back to the FL. I'd expect well over £500k, if not nearer £750k. I think Chesterfield, like many clubs are desperate to get out of the NL this season as rumours of a wage cap coming in next season which would influence the price as well.

Also he might be fat or unable to control the ball, which wouldn't necessarily be a problem in the Conference but would be in L1.

Tshimanga hears of our interest. Agent tells him let’s do this.

Player hands in transfer request, and then we get him cheaper, because Chesterfield won’t be able to keep an unhappy player, and afford to pay his wages, when he don’t want to be there.
Fanciful - he has a three year deal that he signed in August and is playing first team football and given his decent strike rate is probably having a cracking time.

But what's this, it's the mighty OUFC 'Hey Kabongo - why don't you shaft the club who paid money for you, get a really bad reputation and risk sitting in their reserves if they don't play ball? If it all works out, you could sit on Oxford's bench waiting for Matty Taylor to get injured.'

Get real.

Morton was a player I wanted us to sign in the summer really stood out for Northampton in L2 last a few years ago scoring plenty of goals and running defences ragged. As we saw yesterday, he still runs all day but is yet to add the goals he had in L2. I’m sure in a better team and more experience they’ll come. Reminds me very much a Danny Hylton.

This is getting like the Henry Landers thread. A weird obsession with a player who simply isn't coming here.

1. If it was going to happen, it would have been when Tshimanga was playing for Oxford City. I believe KR was asked about him in a post-match interview and didn't give anything away. We weren't interested then and probably aren't now.

2. His current excellent form will have only increased his price and the number of clubs looking at him. The posters on this thread seem to think they have cottoned onto a hidden gem that no one else has noticed. He's top goalscorer in the NL! He's on the vidiprinter every gameweek. Even Championship clubs will be sitting up and taking notice. Former Yellow Matt Green got a move to Birmingham City on the back of a prolific couple of seasons with Mansfield at that level. Some on here talk like he's ours to poach.

3. We may be the sort of club to pay £200k for a player but our model would want to ensure that we could sell them on for more than that. Chesterfield will be looking to recieve double that as a minimum if they're going to sell him - and I bet they'll be valuing a place in the EFL more than the cash they would get for him. Tshimanga looks like more of a gamble than the likes of Brannagan, Dickie, Atkinson, Ledson and many of the others who have gone before. He's 24 so slightly older than the age we look for and hasn't come from a PL/Championship academy so won't be quite as polished as some of our previous signings. He could be the next Jamie Vardy or Dwight Gayle, he could be the next John Campbell or Jonte Smith. Who knows? Whatever, his profile doesn't fit the model we have here as easily as others.

We do need another striker(s) in January though. Agyei hasn't developed as hoped and Winnall doesn't make the pitch often enough. However, I don't believe Tshimanga fits the bill in terms of current valuation and likely return on that investment to replace either of those two.

Yup. And I'd go further than that. There are very good players at every level who don't have the potential to step up. Generally what prevents players stepping up is lack of pace. The speed of the game increases every time. He may get an opportunity higher up the ladder, but there's probably a reason why he's playing at step 5 aged 24. Vardy was a very different situation. He had well documented off field issues that put lots of clubs off. That's why he was picked up so late, aged 25. KR knows all about Tshimanga. Chances are he doesn't think he can step up.

But KR also said winnall was the best you can get at this level so I would question his judgment on strikers to be honest
True. But on the few occasions Winnall has been fit, he's looked very good. A better analogy would be Pat Hoban. League of Ireland is about L2/National League level. And he was/is a stand out player for Dundalk. 25+ goals a season, but found L1 far too quick. Possibly the same for Cooper. Last season's NI player of the season, but struggles to make the bench here. Players have generally found their level by their mid 20's. Anyone taking a punt on Tshimanga is probably looking at £500k, which is a lot for a L1 club, which is probably the level he would look to move to. Anyway. It's highly unlikely we will be signing him. Aygei isn't the back up solution to Taylor and I am sure KR knows that.
