Jeremy Corbyn

Foot never spied for USSR. He won a libel action about the Times' claim. It was detailed in Private Eye about a month ago.

Really? Claims published in the Times in the 70's(?) that Foot sued them for libel and won.

I think this quote sums it up. Another case of confirmation bias!
So, if the contents of the KGB archives was reported accurately by Gordievsky, and assuming Lyubimov and Kubeykin were being honest, what does this tell us? Essentially, that Gordievsky believed his predecessors in London and that MI6, in turn, believed Gordievsky. But the truth is that, until archival evidence becomes available, it is very difficult to draw any firm conclusions. We also don’t really know what MI6 made of this – we only know what some anonymous individuals have informed a journalist.
I should have put Murdoch Media in "" to be clear that there is a taint there.

Whether it be tittle tattle or even passing on stuff without realising, Foot's behaviour and ideology was enough to warrant MI6 to take things seriously. A useful idiot perhaps?

None of the above. Foot was a British patriot and democratic socialist. Repeating disproved slurs and, when you are corrected, repeating them as insinuations should be beneath you.

Are you not concerned that he took Russian money? Or that MI6 were concerned about him to potentially tell the Queen? Does taking money make you a spy, useful idiot, a patsy, whatever nomenclature you want to use?

Would a British Patriot just say no?

What, like Boris (man of the people) Johnson?

Yep. I think it's not so much that people die, but how and when they die. Many different ways of looking at this, but as an example lack of investment in the ambulance service = longer waits for transport to hospital and subsequent treatment = less chance of recovery.

Where I live a donkey could stand for the Tories and be elected - in fact, she did - yet locals constantly moan about street lights going off early, verges not being cut, litter bins not being emptied. When you try to tie in these in to lack of central government funding (austerity) you get blank looks of denial. I've been called an idiot for simply suggesting austerity is actually a thing, let alone linking it to poorer services.

People round here get exactly what they vote for. (Like Brexit for instance. Farmers were at the forefront of the 'out' campaign round here, and are only just realising they don't have enough east Europeans to pick their crops. These people are still entitled to come here, but many have gone home as they feel unwelcome, and who can blame them.)

Absolutely agree.

The recent announcment that "Austerity is over" after the budget is laughable. Unless investment in services (mental health, NHS staffing, SureStart, day centres, disability allowances, etc, etc etc) are returned to the pre-austerity levels, then people (usually the poorest) will continue to suffer.

If we're talking about politicians taking money from Russians, then it's the Tories who are the main recipients.

A good proof can be seen by googling "Andrew Neil Michael Foot Russia" which I can't paste the url as I'm on my phone.
Andrew Neil's belief is the same as the MI6 belief. Can't be corroborated either way but in this modern world, guilt is presumed right?

Andrew Neil - "Michael Foot was not a Soviet sympathiser". The claim was tested in a libel case while Foot was alive and found not to be true. If that's not corroboration what could be? Your usual game of repeating lies.

More pedantry: There were around 120,000 more deaths in total between 2010 and 2017 than there would have been had the mortality rate between 2001 and 2010 continued.

https://www.newscientist.com/articl...-cuts-to-nhs-blamed-for-120000-excess-deaths/

From 2008 to 2015, the number of people aged over 90 increased from 657 to 854 per 100,000 people, and the total number of centenarians increased from 10,400 to 14,570.

“There are probably a lot of factors: we have an aging population” and there is also the flu, which can cause upticks in some years such as 2015, said Annie Campbell, a senior researcher at the U.K.’s Office for National Statistics. However, “for the overall long-term pattern, more research will be needed before we can be sure what’s driving it.”

Life expectancy also declined across Europe in 2015.

Hate to break the bad news (again) ....... they will all die.

Is that a direct quote from the Maybot? ;)

Nope just some research.
"We" can keep folk alive for a very long time, what that quality of life is belongs in a separate thread.
However.............we all die in the end. (Another thread!).
