We actually have a better than average Goals Against in the Championship. It’s Goals For where we are lagging behind a lot of other teams. I think it would be an unnecessary distraction in January to start messing around with our CBs. Bearing in mind we were without Brown at the start of the season and Spencer in the run up to Christmas, we’re faring pretty well at the back. I appreciate that we’ve conceded some poor goals, set pieces could be better and Cumming has had to make some worldies, but we really should prioritise other areas.

Very true but with Prelec, Donley and Tyler all absent for a few weeks at least we will be naming a squad of 22 + 3 already injured so we might not have the choice.

Sorry for being the pedant, but we'll be naming a squad of at least 23 + 3 with Spencer being under the age requirements. If we sign McDonnell then it would be 24 + 3. We still have a few players that we need to move out, and maybe one or two that won't be registered - but there is a little more flexibility in our squad that some imply.

Hopefully he has, but just not announced by the club yet. All the reports from Mansfield fans and the advanced stats posted by others are really encouraging though, for him to be of the required standard for a real position of need for us in the Champ

Mind you the fee has to be agreed with Notts Forest not Mansfield - so the only scenario is that McDonnell is loaned back to them again for rest of season. That is all that makes it their business
